In case you haven't been around, 25 threes is nothing. Shooting 40 is not extraordinary anymore with this team. To chenjy9: yes it is a problem, nobody has the personel to shoot as many as we do. Klay & Curry might be the rare oddity here. And especially when you know that, why the **** would you keep the same strategy? That's just dumb, plain and simple. You need to adapt! J.B. & McHale both seem incapable to do that, but I'll give JB a pass because he has to work with what he's been given right now and Morey & Leslie want this dumb 3pt reliance so..
In case you didn't watch the game, it was the Hack a Shaq strategy that kept us down to "just" 25 threes. 25 threes is still top 10 in the league. Our ave leading the league is 31. The Hack a Shaq contributing to us from hitting that average, surely.
Honesty if they didn't "Hack-a" for such a long stretch they probably would have attempted around their season average for 3's.
Meh. Howard looked like playoff Howard last night and I wouldn't expect that every game. When Dwight is as active as he was last night paired with Capela, it's a defensive force to be reckoned with. We played well on all sides of the ball is the big takeaway and we can be nearly unstoppable when we do so.
It's not the personnel really... Yes, it would be great if we had a team full of versatile, +40% 3 point shooters but that's very hard to accomplish. We just haven't been taking good shoots along with a baffling team wide shooting slump to start the year. I still maintain, getting another above average playmaker and scorer to relieve Harden would be the best move forward. Harden just does too much on the offensive end and I'd hope relieving him of some of that would translate to the defensive side.
The key there was potential coaching/chemistry issues. Sure we looked competent. So do teams when they are beating us. Bottom line is that was one game. I don't believe any lessons can be learned from that one game. Rockets have been a bad to mediocre team all season so they will need to do it for more than one game before I personally believe any lessons have been learned.
Lets hope JB can actually hold this mentality...some games he does, some he doesnt..maybe he was trying to figure out some plays, but posting up more, going to Dwight and shooting less threes should get us more easy buckets and therefor less work on the offensive end which would give us a boost on defense. Pretty simple you would think, not sure why JB or even MilkHair havent considered that more. MilkHair had an injured Dwight for a year, but still by playing it inside it opens space for some movement and easy buckets.
I dont think this team has learned much of anything. We won a game without a huge amount of 3's or Harden scoring 40. So? One game doesn't constitute a trend. One game cant reveal if anything has been learned or any lesson sunk in. My mind will remain the same about this team until we show we can beat the better teams on a semi-regular basis.
I don't really care as to how many 3s the team shoots if their not forcing them and there open looks. And for gods sakes please don't let Corey Brewer shoot the ball anymore its embarrassing.
This. The 3-point philosophy works if those shots are efficient - either wide open or semi-open, but taken by a great shooter. You can't just jack up 30 threes in ****ty spots and hope it's going to work. No. That won't win you any games.
Lesson learned - Dwight has to run the floor and get deeper positioning for post ups, rather than 6-7 feet away from the basket. For this to happen, our guards have to push the ball up the floor regardless if it's from a made shot or off a rebound. - Just play hard. Simple I know. James and Howard set the tone from the very beginning. They have to come Out each and every night and set that tone for the rest of the team. The threes we did shoot last night were MUCH MICH better looks because we pushed the ball and got wide open there's, rather than Harden dribbling for 20 seconds then passing to Ariza to shoot a semi contested, forced 3. - Energy can't just be at home. They have to have the same attitude on the road. This team showed what they care capable of doing tonight. There's no reason they can't do this on a more consistent level.
The fat analytic geek fails to realize the inside/midrange game should be your foundation. 3pters are obviously the toughest shot in basketball and if you only play on the perimeter you will crash and burn when the shots aren't falling The Warriors drafted 2 of the leagues best 3pt shooters so they have the opportunity to put up as many as they want but these shots aren't done in isolation or stupid drive and kick plays. The entire team works together and finds the most efficient shot available to them The Rockets need to fire their GM, bring in a new coaching staff, and implement a new system that aims for efficiency rather than stupid analytics
Definition of analytics - the systematic computational analysis of data or statistics. Since you great BBall IQ shade throwin gif pastin masterminds try so hard to look smart, please tell me where the word "efficiency" is in the definition of analytics
