Just for clarification. They have removed strength of schedule from the BCS haven't they? I'm pretty sure the removal is the reason a lot of teams are now shying away from tougher non-conference games. If that's true, which I'm 80% sure it is, UT WILL play in the national championship if they win out. Pollsters will rarely drop a team when it wins. The only scenario I could really see UT running the table and not making the title game is if VT keeps slaughtering everyone they play including Miami and FSU and national pressure someohow leapfrogs them over the Horns. I still think that will be nearly impossible, especially with UT's national rep and the win over tOSU.
yes, "strength of schedule" was "dropped" from the bcs formula. however, the human polls will still be affected by it. just think how you would vote as a contributor. certainly, you would take that into account, even if just a little bit. there's absolutely no way you can completely eliminate it. again, VT is s.c.a.r.y.
LOL to the fact you can only talk about next year. Rooting against LSU has little, if anything, to do with a recruit. It has everything to do with a BCS system that could give LSU a legit dispute against UT in the case both teams remained undefeated. If UT wins out, LSU is out of the viable picture. Your argument is like saying the Astros are rooting against the Phillies because Billy Wagner had some choice words a few years ago. Nothing to do with the wild card chase. Sure it may make it sweeter, but as long as we don't lose, I, and most Horns fans could care less what LSU does. PS- Are you going to Dallas next weekend?
I think it's safe to say that LSU won't remain undefeated, especially considering they lost last night.
This really pains me to say this since I am a big Miami fan and hopefully people here won't go apesh!t on me but from what I have seen this season so far - the 3 best teams in the country are USC, Va Tech, and Texas and each one is separated from the others by a "level". From what I have seen of Va Tech, I think they would beat Texas and could (could being a big word here) possibly beat them by 2 touchdowns. However, I don't see how Va Tech can stay within 2 TDs of USC - USC is just that damn good. Of course, I have the right to change my opinion on this after watching the Texas-Oklahoma game - one that hopefully Texas wins going away. I also am hoping that Miami doesn't get embarrassed too badly by Va Tech in November, but I am not looking forward to us getting our asses whipped.
I don't think VaTech is that good. Ill go on the record to predict at least 1 loss possibly 2. VaTech is always overrated. They will lose to Miami and possibly BC or FSU. VaTech is not better than Texas nor are they better than Ohio State. It was critical for LSU to lose because they play all of their toughest games at home. They are a good team on the road but a great team at home. Florida will lose and so will Georgia. Texas has the easiest schedule and that helps us because USC and Texas will be the only 2 undefeated teams this year.
Care to elaborate? I think there are some bruises on Ga Tech's backside that would disagree with you...
I'm a big Vince Young fan but out of the schools in this discussion, excluding USC, Va Tech may have the best QB in the bunch including Texas, Ohio St., Florida, Tenessee, and LSU. And they have a great Defense, which is always good under their coach. Team speed is off the charts. Texas I think has the edge over all other schools in the running game. Charles is the real deal. I don't think Miami is that good this year, but a win over them would still give Va Tech a boost. Va Tech has a more complete team than Miami, the Hurricanes' Offense is suspect. The only reason I give Texas the best shot is their schedule but as much as I want to, I'm not ready to say they have the best team.
Beating GaTech at home is like Texas beating Texas Tech. If we beat Tech, it doesn't mean we're at super team status. Until they beat Miami, BC or FSU, they have proved nothing. Texas beat Ohio State on the road. They are as good as any team not named USC.
I think people are underrating Texas Tech...they're really going to surprise this season. I don't see a scenario in which they will have more than one loss after conference play. Who are they going to lose to? A&M? OU? Their offense is ridiculous, and their defense is vastly improved since they have actually let some of their best athletes stay on the defensive side of the ball. It's very possible that they end the season in the top 10, giving Texas a win over(or loss to... ) another quality opponent. BTW, I don't know of a single Longhorn fan that's upset about losing Ryan Perriloux. Not because we have anyone more talented in the wings(We don't), but because the guy's a complete jackass. The only reason that Texas was his favorite for so long was because Vince Young was struggling(OU, Missouri last season), and he thought he could beat him out for the starting job. But yeah...Things don't look good if Vince Young leaves, but I don't think he will unless he leaves with a championship ring and a heisman trophy.
For what it's what, despite all the first round talent Texas has had the past few years, including Benson, Ricky Williams, Quentin Jammer, Roy Williams, Derrick Johnson, Mike Williams, Shaun Rodgers, Casey Hampton, etc., NOT ONE of them has left early. While that is no guarantee Vince will stay, and I assume that streak will end at some point, it does bode well for Texas as far as counting on guys to stick around until their eligibility is done. I'm hoping that Vince stays for his senior year, regardless. But I'll trade that for a national title.
If USC wins out, there is no way they are not the #1 BCS team. If UT wins out, there is no way they are not the #2 BCS team. It may not be right, but that is the way it is. Both teams will have good non-conference wins (OSU, ND) and their own conferences have good records even if they are not as stacked as the SEC and ACC. They would have to play mind boggling lacklusterly yet still manage to win to be skipped over someone behind them in the polls. To tell you the truth, I think UT and USC have a pretty good chance to make it with 1 loss provided they still take their conferences. The likelihood we get two undefeated major conference teams, let alone three like last year, is remote. Oh, and yes Les Miles is in over his head. He has coached more chickensh*t than Mack Brown to start his LSU career. In fact Les Miles totallly lost it yesterday. With 1 timeout left, and after his team had intercepted the ball at around the 45 yard line with like 25 seconds left, he was calling for a timeout. It took an assistant coach whose brain was still working to hog tigh him so he didn't blow his teams last timeout on a change of possesion which comes with an referee's timeout. I don't know if he was already thinking about his excuses for the press conference, but the dude lost it and his mind was not into the game.
back to the lecture at hand, there is no way any coach can come in to LSU and do what Saban did, there is no way, either way the talent that is there is unbelievable, they are fast and strong, can play all 3 phases of the game, really that game against Tennesse was horrible, I seriously doubt Saban would have let that happen. and Yes, I am a LSU fan
Saban's last LSU game was coached even worse with those defensive calls that allowed that Iowa guy to get behind his defense with no time left. Miles was pretty bad both the ASU and Tenn game, a prayer saved the ASU game. Miles looks totally overwhelmed in the expected to win role.
