So basically Les, you want to trade Grady and can't find a taker. I understand that and now you are trying to notfurther drop his value this summer when you try again to trade him. Got it.
Guys try to read between the lines. The truth of the matter is NO one wanted Tracy McGrady. Les is just being diplomatic about it. If only Isaiah Thomas is still around.
He knows there is no market for a broken down superstar with a huge contract who might not even play this year. The only value he has left is when his contract is up. That is when TMac WILL get traded.
Kinda suspicious that Les comes out with the statement after talks with the Nets look to have died. It looks like damage control to me ... We all know he was shopping him because of the media leak.
http://www.nba.com/2009/news/02/17/mcgrady.ap/index.html [rquoter] "I don't think we're going to part ways with Tracy," Alexander said. "We acquired a great superstar and everybody wants us to trade the great superstar. You don't get superstars that often." [/rquoter] That doesn't sound so definitive to me. He didn't outright say that Tracy will remain a Rocket.
I don't really understand. We have an injured TMac hence we will make it to the playoffs with Yao and Ron with significant support players like Landry, Wafer, AB Rafer, Battier and Scola. Now we trade Ron and a number of our significant support players for Carter. This may create problems with chemistry as well as a weakened bench or support players. We should know Utah and Phoenix are very close to us for a berth in the playoffs. This is too risky. I am all for it if Ron and Head for Carter. Anything more is just not worth it.
Seeing the actual quotes from Les reminds me so much of the Rockets damage control after they were caught talking with the Toronto Raptors about an Hakeem Olajuwon trade (1999, not 2001 when they actually did trade him). Rudy T came out and said he couldn't do it ... etc. With that said, I do believe the goal has been to move Artest... but I wonder if T-Mac's latest microfracture/MRI/second opinion bizarro-fest led to them shopping him more.
Haha I had that same post, I agree completely. It urks me, "don't think", why not Tracy will retire a Rocket. When you're lying go all out...
I also found this quote funny...as if Alexander had to answer an unasked question. Oh well, 2 more days left before this poker game ends. I'm not buying anyone's bluff until then.
hopefully what he meant to say is, "there is no way we are trading him until next year when he has maximum trade value due to his huge expiring contract".
In my opinion, i think this is a good news. T-mac is a great player, he is injury now, but that is temporary. We must wait for him to come back the court patiently, some day, maybe tommorrow, or one day, he will return just like superman, taking us victories and champion. So as a Rockets fan, what we can do is just waiting, waiting patiently.
Well all right. I'm not gonna wade through all 8 pages, but what's done is done. Worst case scenario is we have a big-ass contract coming off the books in a year that has a ridiculous number of big-name free agents. I can live with that. Especially since, you know, I don't have a choice.
Les needs to think about what's best for the team and not be concerned with having a superstar and not trading a superstar...very obvious right now that the Rockets are much better without tmac, Artest does fit here and his performance shows it when tmac is off the court....if your not gonna trade tmac, than at least sit him out until he is truley healthy, no more 2 weeks crap. If we are trying to win now, dealing Artest and the other players for Carter makes no damn sense....I hope all the speculation is BS and the Rockets Org. is smarter than this.
