Love how Jim Crane even with the 2 billion comment comes off as such a douche. Even if he said jokingly...f that guy
I'm sure that if Les buys CSN, he would structure a deal with the Astros to show the games. It would make no sense for the Astros to be shown on FSN and require the carriers to have 2 sports networks for one mid level market. I also don't see Crane showing the Astros on a local channel such as 51 KNWS, rather than CSN
They are crazy! Who the heck watches the Astros? I mean I'm a pretty big fan but I only watched about 50 innings last year... I can't get behind a team that is intentionally losing.
The Astros are 50 years old. They're in Houston for at least another 27 years under their current lease at MMP. How they're performing right now..and how many viewers they drew in 2013 isn't the concern. The concern is nights of programming. There are 162 nights of live game programming for a baseball team=. There's only 82 nights for an NBA team. CSN-H was built to support both..and their debt structure reflects that. Even the Rockets, in their pleading to the court, said that if the Astros leave the station would implode...that they'd have to follow. That's why they supported the bankruptcy, because it stopped that from happening in order for the parties to reach another resolution.
They are a monster already. They became one when the ownership group sold their souls for the all mighty dollar and moved the team to the American League, which doesn't play baseball, in my humble opinion. I hope Alexander buys the network, so my friends and relatives in Houston can watch the Rockets, like I can do here in Austin.
You should be. That farm system is already ridiculous and they have the #1 pick in the next draft class, which is stacked.
Why wouldn't Les broadcast Astros games, still? If the Astros want "out," does that mean that they just want to sell, or does it mean they want to sell *and* switch back to 39 or something.
They want out of their equity position. But it's entirely possible they could work something out to keep the Astros broadcast rights with CSN. That agreement is in default right now...and it's well past the point where the Astros were entitled to walk away from that agreement, entirely. But for the bankruptcy filing, it would be over already.
