I admire him for not taking the hush money.

But if he wanted to come back he should have signed the extension when it was offered.

JVG opened the door, he can't now complain that someone walked through that door.

    Good grief, man.

First, you rip the guy for attempted bribery and being "classless" for trying to extort more hush money. When that's clearly not the case, it's now "he should have signed the extension when it was offered".

When was it offered? Last year?

You hate the guy. He's now gone. Move along.

It is not bribery, it is business, people sign Non disclosure agreements all the time, I was not RIPPING him for that, I expect it is part of the business, and honestly, I expect most people to TAKE the money.

I admire JVG for refusing the offer, clearly the money is not a motivating factor with him.

Earlier THIS year, he chose to wait until after the season, IMO, he made a mistake.

Sigh, I don't HATE anyone, I THINK he is wrong for this team, big difference.

    Hardly.

Did anyone read JVG's comments about having been fired? If he was given "hush money" then he sure as hell didn't uphold his end of the hushing. He pretty much called Morey a liar (see Chron story -- http://chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4816337.html -- "a scenario that Van Gundy strongly denied, calling it 'revisionist history.''')

As for Les, he's a complete f_ck-up. Look at the kinds of (purely cosmetic) changes implemented since he took over:

Exhibit [A]: Turbo disappears and Clutch the (f_cking) Bear is born.

Exhibit : The uniforms go from the classic red/white/gold to blue with (f_cking) pinstripes.

Exhibit [C]: The Summit (Compaq Center, whatever) is "updated" then subsequently abandonded in favor of the Toyota Center (which, as we all know, is a complete and utter distraction from the actual games).

Exhibit [D]: The Power Dancers start wearing animal rights t-shirts during half-time performances (because everyone would much rather read animal-friendly slogans than ogle those amazing bodies).

(Oh, and by the way, don't even start with the whole "Rox won two championships as soon as he took over" bullsh_t. Patterson built that team.)

From the outset, Les has proven that he really only cares about the veneer. It's like IKEA furniture: looks authentic on the outside, made of composite bullsh_t on the inside.

Personally, I'll always be a Rockets fan. I'll always watch them, and I'll go to a couple of games ayear, because I love this city and I love my home teams (yes, even the Texans). But I'll always hate Les for handling this franchise the way he has. Until this time is sold to someone else, I think we should probably just prepare ourselves for more disappointments of this sort.

Say what you will about JVG, but at least the man always shot straight. I think Les just doesn't have the stomach for that. Must be the vegetarian diet...

I see both sides of the argument here. les alexander is the owner, and he is not an elected public figure. he can do whatever he wants w/o explaining. HOWEVER, the things coming out of their camp is simply hard to believe. i think all three owners in houston are pretty shady when it comes to what's being put out in the press, but again, it's their right to do so.

Let's remember Les probably pull this stuff with Rudy and Hakeem, too. That's just Les Alexander for you.

I expect the same thing with Adelman, eventually.

Some of us set our sights a little higher. We actually do care about lies, and don't like being lied to. We also want to win championships. People can win championships and not lie.

    The two aren't mutually exclusive.
