Technically, he brought all of this upon himself. "Don't cry for Argentina".

I loved Sir Les Alexander's take on all of this. But I hope he not just blowing smoke alone.

CB, I dont know how all that works but doesnt one need to take it easy in order to maintain a good prognisis. I mean were talking about summer camp, scouting trips, long enduring road trips, heavy competetion, and now even fulfilling obligations that may have been made to the chinese basketball system over there
...seems like hell of lot of uneccessay stress one should accumulate after recovering from something as serious a bladder cancer. personally I dont give damn about the team and Rudys coaching ability, but what concerns me a little is the competitive and stressfull enviroment that a professionl coach works in and the possible negative effect that may have on the human organism.

i love rudy. but if there is a coaching change. Maybe les is thinking about the year after next? perhaps larry will coach this year, but the year after that? doesnt RILEYS contract end in miami around that time?

Bottom line: THe NBA is a business and making money is the primary factor for the majority of owners (sans Cuban). When people in your organization do not get the job done, when given ample opportunity, they are moved (fired, transferred, etc.). Rudy is the primary person responsible for the performance of the team so he will be the first to be moved. If this doesn't happen, then I would consider Les a Cuban-type owner without the bank account.

I just dont see how you guys have managed to follow the team this long! Seeing as how Rudy's such a pushover and Francis is the epitome of selfishness..........it is just really sad that you guys can follow the team and not make any personal connections. I would rather be the Jazz than the Blazers whose players have no loyalty to the fans or city. Rudy is the Rockets, like Mike he should decide when it is time to step down. Its not like we were working with a lock for the playoffs kind of team to begin with. We have a lot of talent that Rudy brought in that can win, will win, but you all cant expect things to happen overnight. Had Rudy not gotten ill we might be talking playoffs, but that is life you deal with it and move on to next year. About Steve, you cant shift all the blame to him. People on this board give Ming all the credit in victory and blame Steve in defeat, why? I will be the first to admit that Steve isn't John Stockton or J Kidd, why do many of you want those players when all you want them to do is dump it in to Yao? Steve is the perfect compliment to Yao's game once Yao can hold post position and draw/deal with doubles. This post is getting too long for many to actually read but that is my 2 cents.

This team needs change BIG TIME !!!! if the rox keeps everything intact, things will be the same again next year...old habits are hard to break!!!! the thoughts of seeing iso again next year just scared the daylight out of me!!!jeez, it's been five freaking years of watching the same type of offense over and over...that's enough!!!

Mebbe Steve will reconsider his crying if the "Larry" is Larry Brown. After all, Larry moved Iverson to the 2 guard. Larry can implement a similar system. Larry can teach us to play defense like Philly. And Larry has Yao instead of Coleman.

Hmmmm . . . methinks Steve would shut the hell up if Larry came to town.

Tsk, tsk. That's how rumors get started. I didn't say that. I said my guess is that he will. An educated guess, but very much a guess just the same. A lot of things could change between now and then. Les' attitude and Rudy's health for starters. I knew Les was very upset, but I am surprised that he voiced it publically. After all he was livid after the Rockets got drummed at home by Dallas earlier this year, but came out a day later and voiced total confidence. We're not seeing it here.

I'm also equally surprised that Rudy is so vocal about being back as coach next year. Who knows... we'll see what happens.

But if the Rockets head coaching position was to become open, how many top coaches would line up for this job? It's already a high-profile gig, but the chance to coach a 26 year old Steve Francis, teach a 23-year old Yao Ming and kick a 29-year old Cuttino Mobley to the curb (or to the highest bidder)? I'd say quite a few.

If Larry Brown came to town, every player would know what was expected of him. If they dont follow his plan then they are benched.

My bad - I thought Mobley was 28 now and I was forecasting the starting ages for next season when a new coach could come in. He'll be 28 though (born in September of '75) at the start of next season - not 29.

Just for the record, Steve NEVER said: 'Draft Yao and I'm out of here.' That was a rumor started by a poster, and not reality.

No question, all the more reason why the Rockets should decide their coaching situation SOON so if they do decide to get a new coach they can being the interviewing process in earnest to get a new coach in here as soon as possible to prepare for the new season.

Additionally, there might be other coaching vacancies openning up after the season (Toronto, Atlanta, Cleveland etc) so you would not want a quality coach out there, that might be interested in our position if it was opened up, get signed by another team before our position is officially open.

Jeff Van Gundy seems to be at the top of the list of coaches people will look at in the offseason.

He's the oldest starter at 27. 2nd-youngest team in the NBA. Fact.

Sorry that this is off topic, Clutch, but I saw your story about the 1st round draft pick definitely going to the Grizzlies... without any qualifications. Boy, they sure kept THAT close to their vest. We've been thinking all this time that it could be within 3 spots or something. Anyway, thanks for the heads up.
