I would think Leno would have to sign on for this. NBC wasn't going to choose Conan over Leno at the time. Leno might have thought retiring in 2009 - back in 2004 - was fine, but clearly that changed as the date grew near.

what gloves will come off? conan might feel slighted behind the scenes, but enough to bolt? doubtful. conan seems to laid back and comfortable where hes at to start a feud with NBC/leno. he'll suck it up until leno finally decides its time to hang it up for good.

Holy crap! I forgot about that! I actually own that DVD - starring Kathy Bates as Leno's agent!

    Wow - strike 2... unreal.

I think a better comparison is Leno's ratings in his first year to Conan's.

It definitely is. I watch Conan on Hulu every night, but I noticed last night that the latest episode was under "most popular." The Tonight show is never under the most popular on hulu

Leno came out and said on his show tonight that he and his people aren't happy with NBC and neither is Conan's.

People hear blaming Leno have no idea what they are talking about.

He has said in multiple interviews before that he wanted his 1130 slot back. Now he's just trying to play innocent.

I do not find Leno, O'Brien, Fallon, Daly, Letterman, Ferguson, Kimmel, or Sykes funny.

    Here is my proposed lineup:

    Weeknight Update with Seth Myers

    Hollywood Update with David Spade

"Not the View" with Rosie O, Kathy Griffin, Margaret Cho, and Bill Mahr

    Ambiguously Gay Duo

yea, from what i've heard leno is kind of a slime ball behind the scenes. wouldnt surprise me if he started openly campaigning for his slot back awhile back

Conan is on his game tonight. He's really giving it to NBC.

The right thing for Leno to do is to decline the move of his show and retire. Conan is the one who is getting the shaft with these changes.

What does Leno have to be unhappy about NBC?

He didn't want to retire, so NBC gave him a primetime gig.
His primetime gig bombed, so NBC gives him his old job back.

I fail to see the part where Leno got shafted by anyone.

Also, it strikes me that maybe Conan would be a good replacement for Letterman, when the time comes.

You keep saying this, but have yet to offer a valid reason why.

Can you fault him for wanting to keep working? He enjoys what he does. He has a right to work if someone wants him. He was going to go to a different network, and NBC offered him the primetime gig.

Leno had better ratings, and had been the champ for 20 years. People keep bashing favre, but he took the packers farther than aaron rogers has.

To keep working? no. To screw others' over in the process? yes.

lol, how can you even say that when in this scenario, Leno only has two options: one is to keep working, the other is to retire permanently. He either takes NBC's offer and screws Conan or he does not take NBC's offer and he screws himself because he still wants to host.
