Subjective Comedy Thread is Subjective. Leno Blows. Conan Rules. This News Sucks. Fallon's alright. Oh and then there's Dave.
and Leno is the one failing in his time slot more than Conan in his, no? I don't see how The Tonight Show can lock up Conan for all those years and then let him go like that. imho, it is Leno who sees the door, as I predicted, and as it always should have been...
Maybe Conan can go to Comedy Central; follow Daily Show and Colbert. Wouldn't have to water down his act there.
He can bring back the masturbating bear, if they mated, etc... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dVMOmt518X8&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dVMOmt518X8&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
i tried to like conan..but he just tries too hard sometimes with his overacting and it just goes over the "now you are annoying" bump. i find leno less irritating..
i like conan's joke-telling and always watch his initial comedy segment to start the show. then, i usually turn it off before his first guest comes on. sometimes i'll watch the segment after his stand-up. i like his stand-up. he tells a joke and then acts it out. i think it is funny and i think he sells it well with his facial expressions and body acting. i'm not saying all his jokes work...but i like his delivery style. leno, i like his news clipping segment. his stand-up is not as good as conan's in my opinion. i guess they both have their share of haters out there. i guess i missed it...but are conan's ratings way down from what leno had or something? must be. and, leno is sucking in the earlier time slot. maybe they should be on the same show as a duo?
If this news is true, it makes me dislike Leno even more. This is just so wrong. I like Dave, I like Conan, I cannot stand Leno. I would like to see Dave reach out to Conan in some way if he is let go by NBC. I could see that happening.
Leno's show is also failing, otherwise this news wouldn't exist. NBC might be trying to get back to 'the way it was', without realizing they may have screwed it all up completely.
I'm a Letterman fan, so I really couldn't care less. Good luck to whoever is rooting for the two guys.
It just seems wrong, after years of promising Conan the spot, to give it to him and then take it away because Leno had second thoughts. What is even more wrong is all the actors and writers that lost their jobs to clear 5 hours of room in prime time for this failed Leno experiment.
To move Conan up into the Tonight Show slot was one mistake. To try to force Conan into the same format instead of allowing him to bring his own trademark humor that made him so popular in the 12:30 slot was an even bigger mistake by NBC. It was rather obvious all along that Conan was stifled and his humor felt a lot more forced after he moved to the Tonight show. On Late Night he was so natural. He had much more creative control and he was at home with that audience, and it worked so well that he was considered one of the two funniest men on TV. Meanwhile, the folks who were disenfranchised by NBC's shuffle have found a home with Craig Ferguson, another guy who is allowed to function naturally in his own style instead of being forced into a legacy format. Ferguson is everything a late night host should be and then some.
Wow, this is complete and utter crap. Either it's true, which would unnecessarily destroy a low-risk, moderate-return program and two careers in one fell swoop; or, more likely, it's not true: which I can only hope would somehow, someway ruin TMZ. Aren't these people owned by TimeWarner (held back from the AOL spinoff)? I'm almost offended at how implausible this is. I'm really hoping every single person in this chain of communication is somehow exposed and fired.
Conan's show is failing in the ratings right now. When Leno hosted the Tonight Show, it had higher ratings than Letterman did. Now it's no longer the case.
Right. They are both failing. NBC is hoping they can somehow go back to the way it was, but they are probably wrong.
It really is pretty mind blowing, putting aside which show you like the most. This "transfer of the Late Night crown" to Conan was trumpeted for years by NBC. It is an utter humiliation for the stars, the suits, and the network. Leno is the only one that might have a smirk on his face after all this plays out. He'll probably demand and get a raise and a new contract.
