For a good QB, it was a great fit. This situation may be better for Leinart, who isn't a good QB. For what people expected Leinart to be, it was a dream scenario. 2 all-pro WR, a former NFL MVP to show him the ropes, and although James was never as good in Arizona, he was still there, and had a couple of good years in terms of yardage (not per attempt).

Houston's on pace for 32; Arizona forced 29, 30 and 29. That helped tremendously. But other than that - night and day situations, with this one being optimal.
It is a different optimal situation. The Texans are set up for a game managing QB, while the Cardinals were set up for good QB.

I'm interested to see what Leinart can do. I know he was bad with Arizona, but I'm hopeful he may have learned a few things over the past couple of years. The Texans made the decision to bring him back when they could have let him go, so maybe they know something we don't. If Leinart is more mobile than Schaub then that will be a plus also. This is also going to give the Texans an opportunity to evaluate their backup QB's during a real game. If Leinart and Yates are both horrible, then we may be drafting a QB next April. If Leinart can't get the job done, I hope Kubiak gives Yates a chance to show us what he can do.
I don't think anyone has even thought about that. I wholeheartedly agree, in his short stints in preseason I thought Yates was impressive. He has that indefinable "field presence." If Lienart flounders early, I wonder, how long before Yates appears. Very interesting point.

so far the Texans have the top offense (pts) and top defense (ypg) in the AFC all while withstanding some major injuries. If there are no more major ones, I hope Leinart can pick it up quick cause it could be a special year. He could be labeled a bust or hopefully goat if he gets us to the promise land.
Another possibility, though it seems remote at this point, is that Leinart could take the starting position from Schaub. Stranger things have happened in the NFL. Even though many are not expressing it, they have doubts about him and think he will flounder. But what if he thrives, improves, and actually succeeds in leading the team deep into the playoffs (unlikely to be sure)? But what if? The giddy feeling of pre Schaub injury report has long sense departed, but curiosity is building.

greatest of all time. at least for Texans fans.. cause that's what he'd be to us. LOL however, Trent Dilfer won a Superbowl with a good defense and a crappy offense but managed the game. Hopefully Leinart is more than that
I'm trying to pump myself up for the Leinart era by watching this. Even though I hated USC, I always thought his audible and ensuing pass on 4th and 9 against Notre Dame (legendary 2005 game) was one of the most clutch plays I'd ever seen. Just a picture perfect deep ball, on 4th and long, with the entire season on the line. Unbelievable touch. (Yes, I know it's college. You know, every single article I've read about the Schaub / Leinart situation has made a huge deal over the huge amount of talent this team has. Top defense, without Mario Williams. Andre Johnson, OD, Walters/Jones. Best rushing attack in the league. Best running back in the league. Best offensive line evar. As sucky as Schaub's injury is, this team is YOUNG. And awesome. The next couple years, I have a feeling, are going to be pretty great in Texansville. I see a superbowl in the next 3 years!
Leinart was god while piloting the Ferrari that was USC's uber cheater team. These Texans are really good too. Maybe he can recapture some of that old magic.
Repped. This wasnt supposed to be "our" year... this was mainly supposed to be the year we finally became a consistent, improved, playoff team. We can focus on becoming the team to beat for the next 5 years. This year's experience will help the team in the long run.
