i would have agreed with you until yesterday when i saw D Green rip Matt up in the media for not signing wat he called a very giving contract....i know they finally agreed to a deal but given the talent they have this yr i see denny looking to win now with Kurt, at least for this yr (or as long as Warner can stay healthy)
Again, this was before any of the draft workouts happened. The same concerns Leinart had this year would have shown up last year. If San Fran passed on him, the 2nd QB taken last year was at #24 (Aaron Rodgers). Who knows where Leinart would have gone last year. Everyone said that Reggie Bush was pretty much a lock for #1 this year too - things change as the draft process unfolds.
Bush wanted more money then the texans wanted to give and Mario Williams was willing to sign right away...The Bush goes with the next pick to a team that has a good young talented Rb already. San Fran would not have passed on Matt. Smith got the highest rookie contract ever at the time, so money would not have been a factor. Leinart, still to this day is considered more talented than Smith. Aaron Rogers is no Lienart. 100% Lienart goes #1 in that draft unless he gets injured or goes all Clarrett
I agree, issues do arise in a draft, but 49ers were set on drafting Lienart if he came out. They settle for Smith when he decided to play one more year with USC
