If a thread looks interesting I have been known to "view post" to check out an ignoree. As an ignoree, I can admit I did not probably read your post very carefully. I spent maybe thirty seconds researching your issue so no problem.

I don't recall specifically why I put you on ignore but I have put people on ignore based on single posts in the past. Could be the emoticons.

Agreed. I don't know the context of the situation in question but my guess is that the policy was not put in place due to the latter circumstance that you mentioned. And again, I am not arguing the legality of this rule but having entire conversations in front of those that don't understand is just rude.

Here's the thing, I wouldn't care. I like diversity in the work place and if they're willing to teach, I wouldn't mind learning a couple of phrases or words.

About as rude as it is to have an entire conversation in front of those who are NOT PART OF YOUR CONVERSATION.
By which I mean, not rude at all.

If I said you were a douche but wasn't talking to you then is it rude? By your standards above it isn't, maybe you wouldn't care and you're entitled to your opinion.

No. Calling me a douche is rude no matter what language it is in. It's not saying it in Spanish/Vietnamese/Russian that makes it rude. It just happens that if they say it in English I'm actually aware of them calling me a douche. My awareness does not affect it's rudeness.

Okay, so you think its rude. What if someone looked you in the eye and whispered in someone's ear, is that rude?

    Here you go, bro:
Private conversation means a conversation carried on in circumstances that may reasonably be taken to indicate that the parties to it desire it to be heard only by themselves, but does not include a conversation made in any circumstances in which the parties to it ought reasonably to expect that it may be overheard by someone else

What the heck are you even talking about now?
If someone looked me in the eye but whispered in someone's ear, that would be weird. If they whispered, pointed, and giggled at me... that would be rude. But it would rude because of the action. Their action brought me into their situation. It has nothing to do with them whispering or speaking in another language.

Cool..I'm just trying to make a point about what other people think is rude. The latter situation you described would be rude to you and that is your threshold. I'm sure the former would be rude to a lot of people as well. Not everyone has the same views on behaviors marked by polished manners or respect for others. I'm not really here to change your mind on your views. I'm just presenting my opinion and looking up definitions as requested.
