Okay, I will email you and mc mark with what I have so far when I get off work later today. thegary, That is a great list and have a lot of those people - but I want to keep this as "rock-oriented" as possible. I do have James Brown and Ray Charles for example but I can't include Muddy Waters (as much as I would love to) or Dolly Parton, because they really don't fit "rock" categories. I know there is some gray areas and people will always question some, but I'll see what Batman and mc mark think about the initial field. Stay tuned for further details.
A few more: Leonard Cohen, Jim Croce, Joan Baez, Patti Smith, Henry Rollins, Gil-Scot Heron, Jack Elliot, Roy Orbison, Tracy Chapman, Michelle Shocked, Lucinda Williams, Robert Johnson, Sting, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Peter Gabriel, Beck, Bright Eyes, Jackson Browne, Carly Simon, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Nina Simone, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper, Don McLean, Eek-A-Mouse, Peter Tosh, Billy Bragg, Warren Zevon…
manny, blur over oasis? i don't think so. oasis pissed all over them in their real battle in the mid-nineties. anyways, i think this should be a solo artists competition , so guys like dylan and jimi get in.
Oasis would be ineligible since they were in the 2nd one (Win's tournament). This is something I would still like to do, but I think it has been decided to do a solo artists one next.
I don't know if you have all of the solo artists decided yet but I'd like to see Ben Harper in there. Others that weren't listed before: Bjork NIN Nick Cave Poe Clapton Elliot Smith Elvis Costello Jack Johnson Jimmy Buffett
Has anyone mentioned Elvis Costello or Van Morrison?!! I'm working on a list at the moment, hope to have it up soon. Does it matter who starts one of these things or should I ask Manny or Win first, so there isn't more than one of these things up at the same time. seriously.
I believe they have both been mentioned; they are definitely in my field. I would prefer if you would let me run this; but you can do one yourself. I know that I have to talk to Batman and mc mark first before getting it started. But it should start soon, hopefully before this weekend is over. Oh and Ben Harper is in my field.
Manny, if you make up a solo artists tournament without Weird Al, I will personally come over there and shove a copy of The Division Bell up yer ass
