    I think the CSI franchise has hurt coolness factor of The Who and made their music almost a punchline in current culture. Consider the opening to CSI NY and how watered down their remixed version of Baba O'Riley sounds compared to the visceral sound of The Who at their height playing it.

    I was involved in anti-war demonstrations, rhester, so you "know" ;-)- at least one person here that was (and glynch as well, I suspect). I remember "surfers" and "cowboys" being two large groups (cowboys being far larger than surfers here in Texas, no surprise), and hippies were a tiny minority compared to both. I'm talking about the 1960's.

    Hey Deckard, my old Love Street/ Allen's Landing buddy.

    edit- I think I am younger - I was playing in a rock band in '68 (but I was in 8th grade)

    I was 1A with a draft lottery number of like 37 in 1972- Nixon slowed the draft way down my freshman year at college and I stayed home.

    Alot of my friends a little older went to Nam- I was against it, voted for McGovern.

    Great days! I might remember a bit more of it than you do, but I wouldn't place a bet on it. :)

    Uh, what are you even remotely talking about? Please show where this misuse of English language is?

    I posted initially here because I actually recalled making this EXACT same thread, you dolt. How is that trolling? 2nd time I've asked you, by the way.
    Time for you to show off your English skills moron.

    I was just going to let this one go, but you still had to bring it back up.

    I used to hitch-hike (from Dickinson) up to Love Street when I was 15. That's when hitchhiking was a rush.

    That's just because most things take up to 10 extra years to happen here in terms of culture. :)

    Yeah, but the thing is, people actually believe that all of us smoked pot and had long hair- you know? You always see that in movies from the 80s and 90s- when they depict something from the 60s, it's someone with braids in their hair, with long hair, and the dialogue is "Hey, man, far out..."

    See, therein lies the problem. That's like saying, "But, dude, it's The Beatles!" Yes, but....so? They created music just like everyone else. I like the Beatles, but they're not God, either. And let's face it, there are a handful of songs the Beatles did that, if they weren't from the Beatles, we'd say they're kinda dumb or childish:

    ++ Honey Pie
    ++ Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
    ++ Why Don't We Do It In The Road
    ++ Yellow Submarine
    ++ Revolution No. 9
    ++ Octopus Garden
    ++ Mr. Moonlight
    ++ Dig It
    ++ Blue Jay Way
    ++ Hello Goodbye
    ++ Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite

    It's one of the reasons that I wouldn't put The Beatles as my all-time favorite group (although they're in my top 5); there's a lot of songs they did that just didn't impress me. And I feel like a cult has almost grown up around the Beatles that says, "Oh, don't dare criticize any of their work."

    Same with Led Zeppelin. Again, understand that this is coming from someone who rates them as a top 15 favorite (among 100s of groups that I really like), but I could name many songs that are average or mediocre:

    ++ Down by the Seaside
    ++ I'm Gonna Crawl
    ++ Hot Dog
    ++ Hats Off to Harper
    ++ The Crunge
    ++ Bron-y-aur Stomp
    ++ You Shook Me
    ++ Your Time is Gonna Come
    ++ Royal Orleans
    ++ Hots on for Nowhere
    ++ Boogie with Stu
    ++ The Lemon Song
    ++ South Bound Suarez
    ++ All of Coda

    Many would rate Led Zep III, Presence, In Through the Out Door, and Coda as average. So, there's no mystique- Zeppelin doesn't exist on a pedestal apart from other groups. They were a great musical artist that put out 8 uniformly excellent CDs, but so have many, many other groups. And they deserve the praise, but they're not THAT much different from Yes, or Rush, or Genesis.

    Yeah, you misunderstand me. I agree LZ is not great art - that is my point. They are rock bands, not artists. I was just pointing out I don't love the hyperbole that gets thrown in just because people like a band. The Who are not John Donne.

    I am not so blind by my dislike to think that they were not an important musical and cultural band in rock history, I just like others better.

    Manny,

    Obviously fatty is a fool around here but "couldn't care less" is not a misuse of grammar as you seem to think.

    I was mistaken as I thought "couldn't care less" was a slang term that makes no sense and although it is slang, it's the term "could care less" that makes no sense. But the point is that your writing style is one that is very unique. Doing a search on some threads (mainly the ones where you get into it with Batman Jones) gave some results that are gems:

    http://bbs.clutchfans.com/showthread.php?t=175470&page=1&highlight=debate

    Posts #22, #28, and #32 are just a couple of examples of the "FFB writing style".

    "Only recently you've decided to join in the crapulence that these dumbasses who spew."

    "The D&D is spewing into the hangout like herpes, and even I'm getting tired of it."

    "You're a freaking rabbit in public, and I've already said your cohorts are muted."

    "Regardless, we know you recluse yourself to an internet website."

    And of course, who can forget the immortal "sidelining as a country singer"?

    Other BBS posters have commented on this style of yours, as evidenced by this thread, primarily posts #45 and #56:

    http://bbs.clutchfans.com/showthread.php?t=172482&page=1&highlight=debate

    Post #45:

    Post #56:

    And that was just 2 threads out of a possible 41 threads to go by! :eek: :p

    It's entertaining to read but I do have other things I need to do.

    I will say that in the 2nd thread I linked, moes did a takeoff of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" but changed the lyrics and it is one of the funniest posts I have ever read here, you can find it in that thread as post #66

    As mentioned several times before, your MO, many times, is to go into threads and post nonsense simply because you think it is cute or funny or what have you which sounds a lot like the definition of trolling. You have done it to me (and specifically music threads) so many times that I have lost count. So, sorry that you don't get the benefit of the doubt that I would give pretty much anyone else here.

    Your posts to me in your defense would look more credible if you would lay off the insults - here is a look at what you have called me, just in this thread alone:

    imbecile
    dolt
    champ
    moron
    *****ing Einstein
    etcetera

    Meanwhile I have laid off the name calling (except for calling you "tiger") - contrary to your popular belief, you weren't called a "troll" but instead your behavior was labelled as "trolling". My English skills can be a little sloppy at times (especially my grammar) but for the most part, I manage okay. I always know that I can count on earning some rep when I get into it with you. It is why I enjoy it so much.

    Good points, although I will respectfully disagree on the "art" issue. The reason is this: I don't feel art should be relegated to those in the field of literature, classical music, and epic films. A film like Drugstore Cowboy is, to me, just as much a work of art as The Godfather. A book like The Chamber is, to me, just as much a work of art as Tess of the D'urbervilles. And the musical contributions of a group like The Ramones are just as worthy of being called "art" as an artist like Beethoven. I know many will disagree, and that's cool. I just don't feel that we have to reduce art to those 3 areas above. Are there degrees? Certainly- I think The Grapes of Wrath is way better than The Chamber- but I do see and appreciate the artistry in Grisham.

    Pete Townshend was not John Donne- but then again, Donne probably would have a hard time writing lyrics to music. It's a tricky thing- I've actually found it easier to write poetry than lyrics because lyrics usually come with strict guidelines (e.g. most lyrics rhyme or are expected to). And there are a handful of lyricists whose work I would say is truly deserving of praise, or could actually be read without the music and still enjoyed:

    Bob Dylan
    Pete Townshend
    Ray Davies
    Michael Stipe
    Thom Yorke
    Bruce Springsteen
    Elvis Costello
    Paul Simon
    Joe Strummer & Mick Jones
    Paul Westerburg
    Lou Reed
    Graham Parker
    Numerous others....

    So, I do fully get your point, but I would definitely consider many works in rock and roll (and others outside classical), particularly the studio album, as "works of art":

    Kind of Blue- Miles Davis
    Exodus- Bob Marley
    Highway 61 Revisited- dylan
    Beggars Banquet- stones
    Diesel and Dust- midnight oil
    Rubber Soul- beatles
    village green preservation society- kinks
    Presence- zep

    Numerous others... all works of art.

    Nice list but I purposely stayed away from solo artists/acts - my list was band only. If I went by top 10 solo artists/acts, I would go with this list:

    1 - Van Morrison
    2 - Bruce Springsteen
    3 - Captain Beefheart
    4 - Bob Dylan
    5 - Neil Young
    6 - Tom Waits
    7 - Leonard Cohen
    8 - Marvin Gaye
    9 - Stevie Wonder
    10 - David Bowie

    It is my opinion that coming up with 10 solo acts/artists is helluva lot harder than coming up with 10 bands.

    Oh, band only, OK then:

    1. The Who
    2. U2
    3. REM
    4. The Beatles
    5. Cheap Trick
    6. The Kinks
    7. Radiohead
    8. Rush
    9. The Clash
    10. The Pretenders/The Rolling Stones/Led Zeppelin/The Smithereens/The Ramones/Pink Floyd/The Replacements tie

    But, to be honest, I never differentiate- I mean, how much can one discount The E Street Band when you're evaluating Springsteen- heck, Roy Bittan is close to being my main reason for Springsteen as my favorite, same with Richard Davis with Van Morrison and Mike Bloomfield and The Band with Bob Dylan. All the same to me.

    I love these threads

    1. Beatles- for where they took music and what they did in a short period of time some of the greatest songs of all time- forget the band's talent, they get this for impact and songwriting alone.
    2. Jimi Hendrix- lead guitar that is often copied but never duplicated.
    3. everyone else in any order you like

    I don't think "misuse" means what you think it means.

    A "writing style" isn't a misuse of the English language.

    As for my writing in your threads? I haven't done that since you cried like a baby about it nearly a decade ago. Look it up yourself.

    The only troll here is you and your insane need to wonder what people are listening to.

    Since you enjoy your "intelligent input" on here, and since you know how to use the search feature, let's take a look at every thought provoking thread Manny has put on here. I'm assuming some are missing because the earliest one still states "Another."
