agree. gonna have to take your word on that. agree again - drummers that understand this tend to get more gigs. i think stevie wonder might have all the rock drummers discussed in this thread beat...how many of yall were aware he could play like this? (3:30 and on is just nuts) <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/iBA4vWQRBA0?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/iBA4vWQRBA0?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Those are two good examples of what I was trying to say earlier about the emotional content of Zeppelin vs. The Who. Zeppelin isn't without feeling but it is done in a cool detached way. To me there is a sense of tightness and control to Zeppelin's music while Pete Townshend is laying is soul out there. Consider: <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/zZ2mbCQdBQA" frameborder="0"></iframe> Versus <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/0wYS0u0s1Wk" frameborder="0"></iframe> Going to California is a great song, technically proficient with an ethereal quality to it. Musically its superior to I'm One but there is an emotional detachment to it. Its a fantasy world while I'm One speaks directly to what it means to be an awkward teenager trying to find his way in the world.
Well, congratulations, f**king moron, you win the Idiot of the Thread award. And the continuing saga of the Internet producing a**holes continues...
Seen that before. Nice. Didn't he play drums on a lot of his studio recordings? Maybe even Superstition. Kind of depressing knowing that a blind piano player can show you up on the drums, huh?
He does have the last name "Wonder" and for good reason. Little known fact - Marvin Gaye was originally a session drummer for Motown before breaking out as a vocalist.
i think he played drums on all his albums - maybe not the early motown stuff. but by the 70's it was definitely all him - and alot of those songs were him playing everything. kind of like prince in that regard - a bad-ass on multiple instruments. he has his own keyboard style, but also a very distinctive drumming style and even harmonica - nobody else plays harmonica like him.
Yeah but did he have 2 hits of acid right before he played? Just kidding, nice- hadn't seen that before.
And his problem with that claim is, erm, Led Zeppelin are know for *ucking underage girls back in the day, like 13-14yr olds. It was Jimmy Page mainly.
Also Led Zeppelin has no discernable sense of humor - unlike: Beatles, Chuck Berry, Elvis, Stones, Who. U2 has the same problem. They believe their own BS. Real bands dont. PS. This is rad. Keith Moon at 2:37 is just mentally unbalanced and perfect. Tremendous song as well. Good lyrics - "Its a geniuine problem..." etc. Really great. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aywu48AtRNY?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aywu48AtRNY?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Also, IBTL - since you brought it up, I am happy for you that you were right in the end about the Chucky Brown / Charles Barkley face off in the playoffs. Must have been sweet for you to watch the Phoenix Suns go all the way in 1995 like most people voted they would. The masses are always right. Go Suns!
LOL, I don't know what Moon was on this particular night (horse tranquilizer, perhaps?), but I'm thinking about trying it tonight. He looks like he's having a blast!
Well, it seems to me that those who come down on The Who side are both more emotional and rational in their approach than Led Zep people.
Wait, it has to be close. I don't think you're allowed to have too much of a favorite in this thread (J/K). First cassette I ever purchased was Led Zeppelin II. What was unique about it was the song order: Whole Lotta Love What Is... The Lemon Song Heartbreaker Thank You Living Loving Maid Ramble On Moby Dick Bring It On Home They switched Thank You and Heartbreaker, which was very strange because Heartbreaker and Living Loving Maid are always played together on the radio, almost as one song, like We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions and Feelin That Way/Anytime.
