I have a 60Hz display myself, from back when that was pretty much what was sold, and it works fine. Really nice with the Wii. If you watch a lot of cable news, or financials on the TV... lots of scrolling stuff, then the higher hertz number gives you the groovy "blur free" look, which is easier on the old eye balls.
i just bought a plasma 42 inch samsung 600 hz (60x10) only 720p, from what i gathered prior to buying the television 1080 is only broadcasted via direct tv, and only a blue ray player displays 1080i, so i stuck with the 720 and got a decent deal, 460, frys had it for 399 same tv, but were out of stock if you're looking for a really good tv, i would def go for the 1080 if it had a blue ray player, and at least 120 hz so that you don't get the lines or streaking on action shots.
great post ! I did much research before buying my new tv and I just thought the price/performance was better for plasma. however, if people want an LCD, or LED-LCD, they can find a good deal based on research. For people who play serious video games (Not Final Fantasy) that require fast reflexes, they should read these threads: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1131464 http://72.9.159.100/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1166196
Isn't there some kind of reflection issue with plasma? That alone would make me stay in the LCD arena. (unless I can change my office into a movie room  )
