That's exactly what happened. Besides, Brown is more well-known by the young players, compared to Van Gundy. It's only natural that the coach with more tenure in the league will get the respect. Van Gundy shouldn't feel bad that he wasn't picked over Brown.
Humbleness??? Humble he was NOT. Everything was me me me. "I hope they can surround ME with veterans" "I don't think Cleveland can get any worse than last year" "I consider myself a student of the game" - like people consider you anything higher? you haven't played a damn NBA game, buddy. remember that.
Shaq deserved the right to be cocky. He's proved it. Kobe's only problem was that he was always trying to act like "Jordan."
Never said he wasn't good....he's amazing. However, his arrogance overshadows his skills. It's the players who are good AND are humble that I truly respect.
Once he starts playing, his skills will overshadow his "arrogance." Then what will you do? Heh... By the way, knowing and stating you are the leader when you ARE the leader, is not arrogant. Merely stating the facts, is not arrogant.
1. Hey, would you like him to say "I hope we get a bunch of young guys that I can screw around with."? Saying that he wants some veterans means he wants to learn and wants the team to mature. He knows that veterans wouldn't let him mess around in practice. He knows the he's the franchise player, that's just the way it is in Cleveland. 2. It's true. Cleveland had the worst record in the NBA. They can't get worse. I'm glad he speaks his mind. 3. "I consider myself a student of the game" means that he's done his homework and studies the fundamentals. Darius Miles is NOT a student of the game, Shane Battier IS. There's nothing wrong with being a student of the game. He didn't say anything that makes him a jerk. If you think he did, then you're looking into his words too much.
1. You're missing the point. The fact that he said "surround ME" indicates that he thinks the team should revolve around him. Saying that when you haven't play an nba game is ridiculous and shows he's arrogant. 2. It is true, but was it really necessary to say that? Maybe his teammates will find that a little offensive. Bottom line, that comment was unnecessary. 3. Oh my....you just totally shot your credability to hell with this statement. So long as you're being coached, you are a student. That's a given. He's talking like some people think he's already mastered the game, when he hasn't played a minute of professional ball. He's just stating the obvious and failed miserably to sound humble.
Wouldn't it be funny that JVG saw the upcoming mess of young players full of egos at Cleveland and decide not to coach there? Cavs wanted JVG, but he declined to accept cuz of the Houston postion. Cavs now want Larry Brown, but Larry Brown will most likely to take position in Houston. Now Cavs has to settle for a third candidate from Silas, Duneavy, Kenny Smith, etc. BTW, LeBron James has so much bust written all over his face.
I think he actually said that he hopes they bring in some "better" players to surround him with, as opposed to veterans, which is pretty funny in itself. Not a great way to make a first impression with your new teammates. "Uh, nice to meet you. Some of you guys suck, you just don't know it, and we need to get rid of you. I'm 18. I'm the King. I know everything." Lebron assumes that other "better" players would want to come play with him. I bet 90% of the league wants to flatten him the first chance they get. If I'm a decent free agent, there is no way I'd go to the Cavs, become a second fiddle/peon and join the Lebron roadshow. The days of the willing sidekick a la Scottie Pippen are dwindling. Guys egos just aren't the same as they used to be. It's one thing to be a sidekick or option 1a and still get props, but the Lebron thing is a whole different animal. It's Lebron all day, all the time, and I'm not sure anyone would want to be a part of that. I guarantee Ricky Davis and Darius Miles don't. And once DWagner gets better he'll be out of there too.
Bottom line - anyone who doesn't think Lebron is arrogant is way too caught up in his hype. I don't know how anyone can call him humble.
It'll just be a matter of time before LeBron is speaking like this at his interviews: "Well, they went and hired Jeff Van Gundy. And that's all right. LeBron James just wants to play. Now some people may think LeBron James was calling for them to get Larry Brown, but if you thought that, then hey, you don't know LeBron James. LeBron James doesn't do that..."
I just dont like the guy so I dont care! People are making too much out of this guy!! I know this will sound evil but I will be laughing if he does sux!! Maybe people will start realizing that he still is a highschool student and stop prasing kids!! Atleast he got him some $$$!
Boo hoo! Wake up call! LeBron IS the leader of that team. Verteran, smetteren! They know who "the man" is! If they don't, they are fooling themselves!
To say that James, who hasn't played a game or even met most (if any) of his teammates, is the leader of a team is just plain stupid. You don't even know if he's going to live up to his hype. In the words of gregonomics, stop posting. Immediately.
No, thinking that Dajuan Wagner or Ricky Davis will be the "leader" is stupid! And to not recognize talent in front of your face, it's blind (by envy).
Charles' and Tragic's treatment of LeBron will not help him. They are busy kisiing his behind for some weird reasons - hall of famers for that matter. My fear is that many more will treat him this way thereby unnecessarily inflating his ego even more which subsequently leads to a hard bad fall if all does not go as well. Lebron needs people who will root him properlly and tell him the truth as much as possible at all times - I fear he will/may be lacking this. This is unfortunate though the world we live in is this way all over - money clouds people's judgement even your so called "well wishers". LeBron does not need to be babied; rather he needs a firm control from the people who love him more because the world is no bed of roses. All the best to him.
