It's a money thing. There is more money to be made by switching numbers, jersey styles and colors. After all, Cleveland's economy is based on LeBron James.
I was just thinking about this few days ago so I was a bit surprised to hear this news. Lebron has enough skills to be one of the great players in the game. If he wants to create a name for himself why is he using MJ number, he should use his own number. This plus, as other have mentioned, getting more money by selling jerseys with new numbers would be a no-brainer for him to change the number.
I must be getting old, when I was coming up everyone wanted to 23 because of MJ, now noone wants it because of MJ? IMO the toughest thing to do would be keep the number: nothing says confidence in yourself more than trying to make MJ's number your own, that is the ultimate. Hit the door LBJ and bring on the next MJ; someone who wants greatness enough to accept the challenge of making 23 their own.
I don't really have much respect for Jordan outside of his game though...after i watched the chamillionaire video I couldn't stop laughing
interesting that with all the talk about lebron to NY, the nets might be a more attractive suitor. much has been said about lebron's connection with Jay-Z, and the new multi-billionaire playboy owner... just saying, #23 is already retired by the nets. maybe he let some info leak
Does anyone else think James probably feels a bit slighted that Jordan picked Wade to carry the franchise over James?
Oh please. This is getting ridiculous. A King never changes his robe because of somebody else. And 6? Dr. J and Russell own that number.
