I will say this. From a Knicks draft pick watch standpoint, I'd much rather see them get Lebron/JJ than Lebron/Bosh. Not only is Lebron/JJ semi-redundant, but Johnson is approaching the decline phase normally associated with a guard of his play style. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Johnson's shooting and defense deteriorates in a year or two. While Bosh as a big is much more likely to maintain his level of play for the next 3-4 years.

Also, while I feel Lebron is one of the smartest players on an NBA court, his preferences for teammates leaves a lot to be desired. Further proof that being a great basketball player doesn't mean jack when it comes to team-building.

Lebron/JJ isn't redundant to me. They can feed off each other. The issue is they wouldn't have a useful big in that scenario. Who do they have? Eddy Curry? Gallinari (more of a perimieter guy, he's tall though). Someone's got to do the dirty work.

Maybe my English is falling off, but doesn't that make them redundant? If the Knicks can only sign 2 max FAs, and they do not address their inside need with one of them and instead opt for a 2nd perimeter scorer, wouldn't Joe Johnson be a bad allocation of resources from the team standpoint? Or from lebron's standpoint, given that his future earnings is tied to the team?

Also, signing JJ means kicking David Lee out. While a less FA who'll take less-than-max could mean they resign Lee.

Lebron/JJ Would be much worse than a Bosh/Lebron Combo.

It's very tough to win a ring without a legitimate big man in the post.
Having a good post-player is one of the most important keys to a title team in my opinion.
Why not just ask the following teams......

    2009 Lakers-Gasol/Bynum
    2008 Celtics- Kevin Garnett
    2007 Spurs-Duncan
    2006 Heat-Shaq
    2005 Spurs-Duncan
    2004 Pistons-Wallace
    2003 Spurs-Duncan
    2002 Lakers-Shaq

Plain and Simple you don't win a title or go far without a legitimate post presence.

We saw how difficult it was for the Cavs last year to match up with Howard. So much so they went and got Shaq.

Lebron/JJ is not a threat for a title in my opinion.

JJ is not half as good as Pippen defensively. Pippen was 8 x All-defensive First Team from 1992-1999. The rest of the lineup is weak defensively, especially in the frontcourt. Does Lebron really think he can win with only offense instead of offense and defense?

I think LeBron likes Johnson because of his length and his ability to penetrate.
