INDIANAPOLIS -- LeBron James vehemently denies he's a flopper but openly recognizes it as an effective strategy. Pacers-Heat Game 4 "Some guys have been doing it for years, just trying to get an advantage," James said Monday in the lead-up to Tuesday's Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals. "Any way you can get an advantage over the opponent to help your team win, so be it." http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/201...ames-says-not-flopper-sees-advantage-flopping He should just come out say if you ain't flopping you ain't trying.
Harden flops all the time. So does Lin sometimes. Our teams a few years ago probably led the league in flops. We had the all flop team: Lowry Martin Scola Battier Heck even Yao was taking charges.
The Heat are the worst floppers in the NBA. Second is probably the Clippers. Then the Thunder (but only because of Fisher).
Sure he does and guess what, so does Harden I was actually glad they didn't call many of those 'run / jump into opponent and act like i got hit' and 'stick out my arm and act like i got hit' fouls that Harden gets 99% of the time in the regular season. I hope he can get rid of the 'flopping' and instead of going for the contact just go for the shot / layup. Sticking out his arm is smart but not when you just do it, to do it.
Has a star player been warned/fined? I've seen flops from CP3, Lebron, Wade, Harden that don't even get looked at twice by the league. Yet, they're always on blogs and forums. Also, I thought Lebron said he doesn't flop.
You are a dumbass if you seriously think that. Of course ingesting Kobe's semen for the past however many years may have effectively killed all your brains cells.
LeBron (or any other superstar) will never get fined for flopping I wonder what is going on in the minds of these refs as they make the calls for blatant flops.
I bet the video clips are a better deterrent than the money on the flops. It's a small fine, but every time a fine is assessed, there's a news article about it and a video clip highlighting how that player was acting like a little b**** and forum conversations around each cited flop and what a flopping flopper the named flopper is. With enough enforcement, I probably wouldn't want to flop in a regular season game, just to avoid the name-calling I'd get. Playoffs would be a whole different story, but maybe the floppers would be out of practice and maybe the flopping wouldn't bother the viewer so much because the viewer didn't just finish putting up with it for 82 games. So, I'm thinking consistent enforcement with a small punishment could make a difference.
another article on flopping, crowns the Heat and Spurs as the NBA's most floptastic teams: Playoffs as flop-tastic as ever, and NBA doing little to curb problem http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/...-as-ever-and-nba-doing-little-to-curb-problem
The NBA needs to add a two shot technical foul, player ejected and award possession to the other team if caught in game. If flopping hurts your teams chances of winning, then players won't do it. The problem with the rule is that it isn't aggressive enough to stop these guys. I would add that in the regular season, 3 flops means you sit out a game. In the playoffs, fourth quarters of close games, the flops should also be met with the player sitting out the following game. I'm not sure what you'd do about game 7's in the NBA Finals to deter these guys, but games like that have traditionally been man games. No sissy fouls called.
If they won't call out the star players it won't matter -- or will just make things worse. A high-punishment flopping rule that is unevenly enforced will look like just another tool for the NBA to fix games. And, if a severe punishment makes the league afraid to assess punishments on star players, than it de facto will be. If the punishment is light enough that the league can call anyone out without fear of hurting their brand, than they can enforce it consistently on all players. Right now, it's like speeding laws -- many people routinely speed because they probably won't be caught. Doubling the fines might make people resent cops more, but it won't make them speed less. But, if you institute a Switzerland-like serveillance state where you know the likelihood of a ticket is high, no one but ignorant foreigners like me would speed.
I don't know, man. How many people actually read the articles on flopping violations? Those articles are usually hidden deep in the sports news. You and I are basketball junkies, so we hear about them often. But we're only a small percentage of the viewer base. The season is long and lots of players receive them weekly. Because of that, it's hard to remember who gets these violations. I can only recall a few that the Rockets got (Asik) and maybe a handful of NBA superstars. The current rule is: In the playoffs, players are fined $5,000 for their first flopping offense, $10,000 for a second, $15,000 for a third, and $30,000 for a fourth. Any player who flops five or more times could be suspended.[3] The punishments need to somehow affect the game because as a player, I would save my flops for the playoffs. In the end, no one is going to remember if I flop.
