Spot on. LBJ and camp handled it like immature narcissists and to claim race is why the public reacted negatively toward him is just sad.

I'm not a psychologist, but I think James is a portrait of HPD:

Stupid post. Do you really think LeBron needs to seek out attention?

    Are you kidding me?

I think professional athletes, p*rn stars and politicians are all pretty ripe territory for histrionic personality disorder, without a doubt. LeBron James' need for attention and drive to be more than just a star athlete makes him stand out in a crowd of rather unhealthy egos.

I can think of plenty of players I like a great deal that exhibit really unhealthy behavior (Vernon Maxwell, Shawn Kemp, Allen Iverson, half the NFL comes to mind), but that doesn't somehow mean they don't need a therapist.

I've never seen an athlete that was more of an attention w**** than LBJ, and that's saying an awful lot.

LOL, maybe if had hired people who bothered to go to college or had a higher IQ they might not be in the position they are in. "The Decision" was a disaster from the start, what made matters worse is that he doesn't have a way with words and lacks charm. He should blame his handlers for not recognizing his limitations. Race in my opinoin had nothing to do with it.

So was the criticism that Brett Favre has gotten over his annual Hamlet act is also racially based?

Not really. He's just an old-fashioned narcissist, and unfortunately not in a good way. LeBron's narcissism appears to be closer to Mel Gibson than it is to Larry Ellison.

I can't stand Lebron so much that it has actually made me like Kobe. I never thought that was possible. I can't think of anyone that I can't stand more (in sports) and it isn't because he is black. It's because he is a mega douche tard. I wish someone would go and kick the **** out of him every time he does that stupid ****ing dance.

That's what I thought, too. People forgave Farve as soon as he won a few games; they'll forgive Lebron, too, especially if he wins a ring.

This guy has been a media superstar since he was a teenager. I'm not shocked that he finds it hard to differentiate people's motives and reactions.

Favre was a little different......the reason Favre's situation was so overblown was because the media had nothing else to report and this was the flavor of the month. The media made the big issue over it...not Brett. Yes, it was a big storyline and I fully expected it to be shoved down our throats ad naseum, but its not like Favre held court on national TV....he simply was videoed riding in an SUV to Vikings practice one day and that was that.

i think you could argue how much favre brought on himself.
le douche brought it ALL on himself.
    what a freaking idiot.
it was premeditated and presumably he was sober at some point during the course of making this decision.
wow, he will never live it down in my mind.
    least favorite athlete right now.
    #1 on thegary's ****list.
    yep, i hate him.

Just what I was thinking. The media loves to bash both, um, er, black people from Akron and white people from Mississippi. But wherever Kevin Durant is from -- that's no problem. He gets a free pass, kind of like the Manning kids, who were, er, um, born in New Orleans?

The only way the Lebron show would have played well would be if he had stayed in Cleveland. Then it would have been a celebration of the storylines madmax noted. But since he'd decided to leave -- he needed to do so in a more humble or respectful way. Can't be shouting "LOOK AT ME" and then wonder "hey...why's everyone looking at me?"

    Crazy.

pgabriel, no offense, but can you cite one time that someone has pulled the race card and you did not side with them?

How about douchbaggery being the major factor.
We've all witnessed the chosen one go from king james status to king solomon status after his fallout with god.

    Since lebron likes biblical references.

Except that with Brett Favre this has been going on for three years now.

I think the backlash is stupid, but I'm not sure it's about race.
