Not true, I am comparing Lebron and Tmac, both were raised by single mothers, and both seem to have responsibility issues. There is a common thread there. This is the typical - shoot the messenger - scenario. I was not joking about anything Lebron seems to have the same "Blame everyone else" attitude that Tmac had..... Someone that can't man up and take responsibilty, and sometimes when you are raised up without a male role model, you miss out on that lesson of responsibility. Not saying everyone has it, but it sure seems that Tmac and Lebron do... IMO, they are both mama's boys..... DD
They're also both professional athletes who grew up being told by everyone around them how supremely talented they are. They also both skipped straight from high school to the pros. But those similarities don't matter to you, only the fact that they were raised by single mothers does. Note that you've also used the same explanation for all of Vince Young's maturity issues.
The "blame everyone" scenario is a common theme amongst everyone, not just children with "single parents". And for that matter, simply because they were raised by their mothers and not their fathers does not mean the mother is incapable of teaching responsibility. Heck, I'm sure you yourself have had a good share of "man up and take responsibility" moments on this board, which a lot of people called you out for. And the sexism really wasn't required, single mothers can teach responsibility to their kids equally as well as any other married couple. You think it's easy for a single mother to raise their child when the father abandoned them? And of course they are "mama's boys". Their mothers were the only ones that took care of them during their tough childhood. Sorry, DD, but not everyone has had your luxury of being raised by married and responsible parents. Let's not randomly associate their shortcomings with what they were unfairly deprived of at childhood.
Here's where the problem is with your generalizations. In fact, it's a problem with all similar stereotypes. You only look at the examples that fit with your preconceptions. You've decided that it is logical that not having a father would lead to responsibility issues. You see people who had fathers and have responsibility issues and think nothing of it. Then you see people who did not have fathers and also have responsibility issues and say 'that just shows that i was right.' You are suffering from a type of confirmation bias on this particular issue.
I agree that all those things are issues.....not saying one issue is the entire thing, just that it may be part of the problem here. Yes, of course single mothers can teach responsibility, and I never said raising their children alone was easy. Fair enough. There are certainly examples of single parents raising their kids up right. However, there is no ignoring the fact that it is a common thread here..... DD
Seriously guys, why you're picking on DD here is idiotic. He just stated his opinion on why those two guys can't man up! State yours, but fact is that those two have similar attitude issues.
I don't like entering race into things. Though after seeing the ESPN piece about sports being racially progressive, it indicated whites view Lebron UNFAVORABLY more than blacks like 2-3 times as much (inexact numbers, like 66% to 25%). Just have to think a margin that wide will fuel arguments. It also was mostly saying that sports is waaaaaaaaay more racially progressive than the rest of the country. So really anti-Lebron campaigns might actually be odd ways of racial progression.
You would see drastic shifts based on geographical locations (sans Cleveland) if its the whites that were the racist ones in this discussion (obama is a good example of how the cross section amongst whites plays out), but that hasn't really been the case. But it shouldn't really be that surprising, that blacks has them overwhelmingly supporting lebron based on racial lines. If someone like Tom Brady pulled that on the Patriots, you would see about 25% favourable across all people.

Ah snap! Now how will he feed his family? I sure hope the sprain was not a result of people around him hustling.
