I think he is right. I think the Nets have a legit shot at Lebron though.

Poor Knicks. Its very possible that their plan of landing a big name free agent could blow up in their faces. They could possibly land Chris Bosh, but then their two best players (David Lee) would be playing the same position.

Why did the Knicks give us those 2 first round draft picks anyway? Seems ludicrous to me. There has to be something in the way of reasoning from the Knicks perspective as it seems the trade still would have gone down with 2 second round picks. Jordan Hill seems to be a steal too. Did they really want McGrady that bad?! This just seems to good to be true.

    But I'll take it!

Why will he get more endorsement money? It's already been reported he gets no bonus money from his current endorsers if he goes to NYC. And why would it make him more popular? He's already one of the most popular athletes in the US, if not the world. I'm sure everyone in NYC already knows who he is.

I don't think the Knicks have an outstanding chance at getting Bosh. There's no sense for him not to go with a S&T, the Knicks have no assets to pursue a S&T (especially with no draft picks). I think NY is staring down Boo$er and Joe Johnson.

I think Bosh goes in a S&T to Dallas, LAL, or us.

I think LeBron goes to the Nets, Bulls, or stays in Ohio.

I think Wade either goes to Chicago or stays in Miami.

If all of that happens, and McGrady moves on, the Knicks could easily be a high ranking lottery team after the 2010-2011 season.

Look. Lebron is more than a Superstar Athlete with the potential of pocketing 30M by staying put. This guy is a freakin' multimillion dollar conglomerate. And where are the most multi-million dollar corporations and conglomerates in America? - in New York.

He'll go there the same reasons why Tiger Woods has not retired even though Tiger has already made a billion - mainly mo' money and mo' attention.

Also NY is the advertising capital of the WORLD--Where do you think all those gatarode and Nike commercials originate? -- in NY.

Clearly Lebron is about being a shrewed businessman more than he is a basketball player. He wants to maximize his earning potential and you just cant do that in Ohio. He will be right by the invesment capital of the world also.

Oh yeah, where does his billion dollar homeboy Jay-Z stay who Lebron looks up to not only because he is a rapper but also a shrewed succesful businessman and now owns a stake in the Nets that will also be in New York?

If you think he can make the same amount of money in Cleveland than he can by being in New York wearing a Nick or Net uni -- you really are naive.

If Lebron really wants the money, he will get it by winning titles. Look at Kobe - he is getting paid insane amounts of money by the Lakers, but they can do that because everyone loves because they are a championship team. If Lebron goes to New York and then gets stuck on a low-end playoff team for the next 4 years, no one's going to care, and he won't get nearly the fame that he could get being on a team winning multiple championships.

This is 2010, not 1960. New York is a powerful city, but in the age of globalization, you don't need to head to cities like that in order to gain insane power and fame anymore.

And for all the NY pushers - don't forget that

The Nets are going to Brooklyn
The Nets have just as much money as NY
The Nets have the Jay-Z connection going for them with LeBron
With their top pick in place, the Nets could potentially add two franchise players to put next to LeBron (Wall, Cousins, or Turner in addition to a 2nd signing)
The Nets don't have to waive their big man (Lopez) to sign FAs.

If we play make believe and LeBron and Bosh (or Joe Johnson) sign with the Nets, they'll be a top team a hell of a lot sooner than NY would be if they signed them.

I'm sure they dont. Doesn't mean they control the other 28 teams. It's all going to come down to money and/or years. Of course a non contender isnt going to wrap him up for 5 or 6 yrs...but a one year or trow year deal some may consider, but again, Tmac doesnt seem interested.

I think lebron would love their new owner...you know the guy is going to throw money at the team as much as he can, similar to cuban, but probably more. An issue would be lack of vets/depth in Jersey. It would be a similar situation to where they got swept by the spurs and Lebron won't want to take a step back for one season, possibly two.

I guess im naive... you know what would be worse for him, if he went to a team that stinks, aka the knicks...the dude is the king already he doesnt need new york for $h!t, really looks like he is struggling for million dollar endorsements in ohio. new york is no longer the basket ball mecca is once was, hell be playing 3rd fiddle to the Yankees and the NFL

Yeah, that's why Gatorade and Nike's historically-biggest clients, MJ and Tiger, were based in New York. Oh, wait...

He might increase sales among Knicks fans and NYC residents, but that amount is marginal compared to the world wide audience he's already marketed to. I don't think that's worth much more than the astronomical amount he's probably paid right now.

And being closer to corporate headquarters...why does that give Lebron leverage for a higher salary? Wall Street? Is he going on the trading floor himself? Now that would make him a renaissance man!

actually, there is a way for him to make the same amount of money in NYK,

Correct me if I am wrong, but can't he just sign for 2 years first and qualify for the early bird right and re-sign at 175% of the previous salary?

    Damm...

I always laugh at this "Knicks stink" argument.

WTF was Cleveland before James arrived??? One of the effin' lauhgingstocks of the league!

The Knicks are certainly more talented than the Cavaliers when he was drafted.

Some guys are so special that everything changes once they join a team. Lebron is probably worth 20+ more wins if he's added to any bad NBA team.

Well, yeah. Cleveland pretty much tanked the hell out of the 2002-03 season for James, so they stunk.
Regardless, the team around Lebron doesn't stink now (I think the Cavs without Lebron could win 35 games), and I'm exactly certain why Lebron would want to go through the "I have to carry these scrubs by myself" phase again for another three years at least in exchange for....... new magical endorsements, apparently.

Which means they would stink without LeBron.

We have Memphis' number...there's no other reason to explain why we can't seem to lose to them.

TMac playing his mind games with the Knicks. He just can't keep his thoughts to himself.
