Plan B is important no doubt, but KD ain't coming here. GS won't move him at any cost to Houston.

Bron is a mentor for Ben Simmons, also close to Embiid. They would defer to him for sure, rightfully so.

Plus they also have complementary shooters like Covington, Fultz (next Harden?), Redick, Ilyasova, Bellinelli, Saric, etc.

see the difference also this time is Lebron is a lot older with a lot of mileage on his body. Does he still want to put the team on his back or does he want a lighter load? With Philly, he's an Embiid injury away from battling for the lower seeds and def not championship, not to mention that's not a championship roster IMO. With Lakers, we'll assume he'll be playing with George. Is Lebron, George and the youngins a good enough team to beat GSW? Definitely not. Realistically out of that list, only the Rockets provide a roster that can beat GSW and I'm being objectively as possible. If he doesn't want to go to the Rockets and other team, sure he can make them championship caliber, but out of those teams, only the Rockets would be championship contender.

He can mentor kids after he retires. He wants to win some more rings while he still can.

I agree completely but it's LeBron that needs to be convinced, not me. Tough to convince the GOAT that he's aging considering his career numbers this season and 2nd in MVP voting.

And fact that he's so against changing playoff seeding format tells me he's still invested in ruling the much easier finals road in East.

If we win it all this year, that is the best scenario.
If we come up just short (injury?) and get LBJ for next season--well, that'd be fantastic, all things considered. And I think he would come if we don't win it all. And maybe he comes if we do win, because you know if we do GS and other teams aren't going to stand pat either.

So, if we win we're champions and if we don't, we likely get LBJ. Amazing job DM the GM has done. And all without tanking.

    (CBS article)
    Houston Rockets

It's scary to think about how good this Rockets team would be with LeBron next to Chris Paul and James Harden, but we might have to start wrapping our heads around it really quickly if Houston indeed comes up short of a title this season. That's an important note: If Houston comes up short.

When Kevin Durant signed with the Warriors in the summer of 2016, he made it clear that had they won the title that season, rather than blow that 3-1 lead to the Cavs, he never would've signed on with Golden State. Indeed, latching on to a team that clearly doesn't need you to win it all, even in this era where stars are happy to join forces and split glory, is a bridge too far. Winning a championship like that almost doesn't count from a legacy standpoint. But ... when you can position yourself as the missing piece? Now we're talking.

From that standpoint, the Rockets could well be in a win-win situation this season. Either they win the title, or they fall just short and become a strong candidate to land LeBron and possibly win multiple titles over the next few years.

Now, for this to happen the Rockets would have to do some salary cap gymnastics. Trevor Ariza would almost surely be gone, which would be fine. Maybe Paul and LeBron are willing to take substantial discounts, but even then, they'd have to likely part with Eric Gordon and/or Ryan Anderson, the latter of which could well cost you a draft pick or two in addition, and that's if teams feel like helping Houston become a juggernaut by taking on its spare parts.

You also have to consider Clint Capela's free agency. Houston obviously wants to keep him. he won't be cheap, but his cap hold isn't much, meaning you could wait to sign him until LeBron has been added because you can go over the cap to bring back your own players. Obviously, none of this would be simple. But it's possible.

The easiest thing would be for LeBron to opt in with Cleveland and then accept a trade to Houston, much like Paul did with the Clippers to carve his path to Houston. If LeBron is motivated to get this done, and Cleveland doesn't want to lose him for nothing, don't rule this out. Nobody saw the Paul trade happening until, well, it happened. I'm telling you, keep your eye directly on this one. If Houston falls short of a title this season, in my mind, they become a very strong candidate to land LeBron.

That's all you need to know.

I have to say the Lakers thing sounds more and more click bait to me, Cleveland because well, he's there etc, but all the rumors about his relationship with Gilbert being broken, the team being good but not great eh...i just don't see him coming back unless if they win this season which seems really impossible as today. The Sixers though, i have to say they are somehow a fascinating destination for him, or at least that's what i would think, they have a toon of talent and assets, they are in the East...the only big problem i see here is that he would've to trust Embiid and Simmons feet, that's a huge risk imo, at least if he wants to compete for the championship, also cause the Celtics are just going to improve every year from now on, between guys like Tatum and Brown developing, Hayward coming back and asset they can use to trade for a top player when available (like Davis) well, they'll be up there for years too.

The media and some on this board have this obsession with the narrative that LBJ cannot come here because we are too close and that what happened with KD really matters. He sure looks all broke up. That should tell you all you need to know about what LBJ thinks. THERE IS NO ASTERISK NEXT TO A CHAMPIONSHIP. THEY ALL COUNT THE SAME. If LBJ stays in CLE he will get trashed because that team will never win again and prepare to see that in the playoffs. If he goes anywhere, he is getting hammered. In LA or PHI he is not winning it all because they are never going to be good enough. He will get worn down trying to carry them. I fully think George is going to LA but LBJ needs to extend his legacy. When he cannot get the rest he needs at the end of the season this will become more clear. He is having to kill it every night just to be competitive. This guy is very smart and if it is possible, I definitely think he comes here. I only see it not happening because of outside forces. We have to unload Ryno and convince a pissed off CLE to deal with us. I consider that a bigger obstacle than convincing LBJ. The leaking of the Melo trade talk confirmed what we all think. Morey is going after LBJ and he is not doing that without CP3 confirmation. If you see us trying to do a George trade out of the gate you have your answer. I firmly believe whatever way we go that Morey will have his 3rd team Ryno trade lined up a couple of ways ready to act quickly.

I actually like seeing teams like the Lakers or Sixers on his list. If Lebron, does in fact want to come to the Rockets, it would most likely be via sign and trade. And in order for that to happen, Lebron needs to show interest in teams with enough cap space, that he could sign with out right. He needs to be able to tell the Cavs" trade me to Houston, or I sign with the Lakers.." or Sixers and you get nothing...

I think Bron could settle for another goal. Such as winning three in a row.

Exactly this. Though "opt-in and trade."

I have grown to really dislike Kenny too in addition to Barkley. You can very much tell this is about jealousy just like Barkley and they don't want to see Houston win. Barkley doesn't want it because he never won his championship here that he thought was sure. Yes, I know about the money issue. Kenny takes offense to the comparisons to the Clutch City teams and to Harden in general. To me this is all about protecting his legacy. I liked Kenny but he is now regarded in a much higher light than he was in reality. He definitely feeds off of that. The whole media says LBJ can't come here but are fine being hypocrites everywhere else. I think they know he probably comes here and if he does this will be a defining legacy of championships.

Pretty sure Lebron would come if we lose. Or specially if the next year or in a few years they change the playoffs to the best 16 with no conference just like Jalen rose keeps saying. I would think Lebron would pick us. if rumors are true and DJ still wants to come here at a discount I would take him over Capela. He can improve a lot but DJ would be enough even if he is older. Also I'm pretty sure he Clint would want to get pay. And even though he is playing great, his stats right be inflated because he is playing with Harden and now Chris.

just Checked DJ last couple of games he has played great a bunch 15 plus rebounds a game. against the Cavs 23 rebounds 20 points. and he barely gets lobs now since Paul left.
I'm just saying that if Capela ask for a lot and is more than what DJ asks ill take DJ over him if it also helps to Brin Lebron here.
