It's not speeding. It's how much he sped. Over 100 mph other than a race track is dangerous. Driving at 3 am means he was probably sleepy, adding to the danger. I don't know if it should be called "arrogance." But it surely shows that he has no remorse of what he did, which is clearly a dangerous thing. What he said sounds like a typical teenager if you ask me.

not really. you don't know if he was sleepy or not.
its 3am, also means nobody is on the road, people tend to drive faster, we're all guilty of it.

also, its not like lebron was driving a prius. his car is probably more powerful and it just didn't feel like he was driving that fast.

Texas is usually on the severe side of state laws but I've known at least 2 people that have gotten tickets for going 100 and not jailed. The only time i've hit 100 in houston was on a fresh stretch of the beltway in a 400HP '71 dodge challenger. although I consider going 100 on a freeway like 45 pretty wreckless, there is ALWAYS something going on on 45, and i would not go 100 these days...i was younger and wrecklesser

    happy easter

I noticed that too, Pimp and it confused the hell out of me

Oh and I have done more than 100 before on a couple of occasions - mainly when I had my 350Z. Damn, that car was something! The scary thing was I was doing 110 one night and it felt like I was doing 85!

But yea, obviously if you are going that fast, you better damn well make sure that it is a straightaway and that there is no traffic whatsoever around you.

65 mph is a slow ass speed limit. James can run faster than that. :D

up here in Vancouver is even lower..........

Freakin 50 km/h (~30 mph) for city, and 80 km/h (~50 mph) for local highway.

I guess it just depends on a persons perspective. I commute several times a year between norcal and socal and I always leave late at night just so I can tear up I-5 with wreckless abandon at 3am in the morning.

I guess my biggest problem is with the people on their high horses. Lebron isn't the only one in the world who drives that fast. What about the millions of high performance sports car owners out there? You know they drive just as fast. Lebron is a big boy and can make decisions on his own. If he wants to drive 100 mph at 3am in the morning, then let him, hes going to have to deal with the consequences of getting caught.

Don't give me that crap about getting off easy because hes a celebrity either, thats wayyyy overblown.

I don't care if u drive a Gallardo or a 90's Pinto--it's irrelevant to the topic. 100 is usually a pretty big deal for responsible drivers not in Montana.

I've gone over 150, but I haven't been caught for it. If I have, I would at least feel guilty about it. Saying "It's not a big deal...I got caught. It happens," is very different from, "I apologize for my actions, and I'll try to be more responsible next time."

Lebron isn't the only one. But he's the only one to have to answer to the media afterward.

It's like, there are millions of people out there making racist remarks with their friends. But if you were a celebrity making racist remarks in the media, you'd better apologize even if you didn't think what you had said was a big deal.

People go that fast in germany. Speed laws are dumb on the open highway.

driving drunk by a landslide. driving 100 mph doesn't kill anybody. crashing your car does. so which would increase the likelihood of a crash more? traveling a speed that your vehicle is tested and proven to be able to handle (assuming you are a good, alert driver) OR driving at any speed when your faculties, driving skills are inhibited?

all those who think that 101 is universally, always 'irresponsible' aren't considering circumstance. i've driven the highways at that speed safely. maybe he shouldn't have said he might do it again to the press, but that's the tought part of playing role model.

For Christ's sake 100 mph is not fast at all on an open highway. It sounds like he was cruising home at night. Big deal.

I know 100 seems really fast compared to how fast many of you ride your bicycle but trust me, in a few years when you get your license and get a few years behind the wheel you'll understand.

I disagree. Laws are in place to protect both yourself as well as other people.

The logical flaw with your statement is that "open highways" is subjective. My take is: you can die on your own time. But once you endanger another person's safety, then you've cross the line.

Of course, you're entitled to your opinion.

Driving is very much an ego thing. You can tell by many of the responses on the board. The problem is that almost everyone thinks they're "good, alert drivers," justifiably or not. High speeds + overconfidence is also not a good combination.

I think there was a study somewhere about the corelation of speed limit and number of fatal accidences.

True, driving drunk is much worse than speeding. But I don't think you can have an objective argument that driving over 100 mph is a responsible behavior, not to mention that it breaks the law by a mile (no pun intended).

What LeBron said was no big deal. It just shows a bit of his immaturity.

simply not true. any vehicle lebron drives, be it an suv or a luxury car would have a powerful engine that is proven to be capable of handling those speeds. a 90's pinto would likely come apart at the seams.

also, having driven the highways to and from the cleveland area many times i can tell you that they are pretty 'open' as far as traffic is concerned in between towns. and anybody who's been to ohio knows that it is not as 'connected' between towns as texas is. the small town atmoshpere usually puts distance between settlements, so i'd imagine he was on the open road to speak.

never been to medina where he got the ticket, but i've been to the part of akron that lebron lives in, pigeon creek, and i've driven the stretch of highway 71 that he was ticketed in. i seriously doubt he was 'bobbing and weaving' or otherwise endangering the god-fearing law-abiding 60 mph driver.

still, of course being a celebrity and self proclaimed global icon, he shouldn't tell the reporter he would do it again, but gotta love his honesty. his sponsors don't, but i do.
