Too bad David Wesley isn't still on the Cav's payroll. I guarantee you he would remind James of Bobby Phills. Probably even yell or shed some tears over it.

But to me, its no biggie. I would do the same if I was rich, young, happy, and untouchable. Hell James is probably a Nascar quality driver to go along with his all-pro caliber tight end skills.

Eddie Griffin was speeding in the middle of night, a few months ago. He ended up hitting a train.

Wow, I guess LBJ and I are the only people who have ever driven past the speed limit. I don't condone it, but I've done it myself before. (Last time: rushing back from the Grand Canyon to Vegas to catch a show we paid $150 per ticket; we probably saw a whopping 20 cars in 4 hours.)

That said, Lebron should just man up and admit he was wrong. I think his pride is hurt he got caught and can't readily admit it. Especially as a role model just say what you're supposed to and move on. Don't give the media any more fodder to keep the focus on you.

Pure speculation on my part: Remember how Lebron built that ridiculous mansion? His own casino, bowling alley, etc? Well it's also in the middle of the boondocks, just outside of Cleveland. (Which is why I mentioned in the past that he will never be able to sell the house at anywhere near what he paid for it.) Driving on some low traffic road at 3 am, I doubt he saw any other car besides the cop car. I don't condone it, but stop acting like he was reenacting a scene from Ronin.

BTW, in Phills' case Wesley was reported to be driving recklessly and possibly involved in a race. Eddie Griffin, well...he had more troubles then driving...

it's a tough double standard. People are annoyed when athletes repeat banalities like Biggio did nonstop. They want them to be truthful and say what's on their mind.

Then when they sometimes say what they're actually thinking, people say "that's irresponsible". Even if it's something that 50% or more of the population would also say, like this.

He's a role model, and he has to realize it... so if he doesn't want to lie, he just leave that part out. Maybe he should have answered the question with a "I'll try not to, but you can never guarantee things about the future." But hey, he doesn't have someone writing for him.

If this is all it takes for kids to think it's okay to drive irresponsibly and recklessly, some parents aren't doing a good job. So whatever.. shouldn't be such a big deal.

People do scary stuff on 290. I was dating a girl in Austin, went up there on the bike, was doing about 90-ish, and got passed like I was sitting still by an older guy on a BMW K1200 on the right side of my own lane.

Replace "driving 100 mph" with "driving drunk" and then re-evaluate your responses.

Which one causes more injuries & fatalities?

I got up to 115 on the I-45 a couple of days ago. There was no traffic and I slowed down once I realized it (I thought I was doing 90, and I think I was daydreaming).

Do I make a habit of it? No. I just happened to do it for a mile or so until I realized it. That being said, I know it's wrong, and I wouldn't publicly say that I would "do it again," even if I intended to.

On an open, well-paved road 100mph isn't too bad, especially if you're 'equipped' for it. In some countries there are no speed limits on the interstates, even stateside -- until recently -- you had Montana experiment with one. Of course, the federal government threatened to withhold some funding so they had to reinstate them (or at least that was the claim).

    I don't recommend it...

Why do we even have a speed limit. I know when I drive from austin to houston sometimes there isn't anyone for miles and miles.

not a big deal......he can reach a 100mph with no push of the gas with whatever he was driving.....he probably thought he was going 70 or something.

    Bobby Phills = Racing
Jay Williams, Big Ben, Kellen Winslow = Sports Cycle
    Eddie Griffin = Drunk/Possibly Suicidal

Once again, please don't act like LeBron was a human missile. It's possible to comfortably go 100mph on open roads, I've done it accidentally before correcting myself.

If Lebron James has a clause in his contract forbidding this behavior, he should be more careful about what he says. Of course, the Cavs wouldn't enforce the clause even if it was there.

Maybe when he called him too arrogant because he wouldn't admit his mistake (of speeding). My reply may have been poorly worded, but the connection can be made. Anyways lets not argue about semantics.

By the looks of it, many here don't see speeding (around 100mph), that big of a deal given the road conditions and traffic. Obviously my opinion would change if he was wasted and weaving through rush hour traffic at 100mph, but driving a 100 mph with little traffic at 3 am in the morning? If any of us said what he said, would you consider us arrogant? How about if it was any of your friends, or do none of them speed when theres no cars on the road?

I have absolutely no problem with what he said and respect him more because of it. Would you rather have him say "Speeding is wrong and I will never do it again", because he would be lying through his teeth if he said that. He said what he thought and didn't try to sugarcoat it like many would have had.

I agree. You say the 'right' thing and you're not being honest. You say what you think and you're not a role model.

All this role model thing is complete bull. Why would you want to imitate LeBron, the person? You look up to him as a basketball player. I couldn't really care less how arrogant or whatever he is when he is at home.

Another thing is the 'good community guy'. Again, why should I care? When a team trades for somebody and and somebody argues that he 'does a lot of good things for the community' as a reason, I laugh.
