    Just watch him playing...
Drop step, spin moves, jump stop, turn around fade away one hand floater, turn around banker, up and under, switching pivot, one hand no look passes, baby hook, a center with somewhat decent ball handling skill, and just much more and more.

Whoever says that Shaq is all power and atheleticism do not know how to watch the essentials of basketball

Shaq has more skills than most centers in the league. You don't see 300 plus pounders like Oliver Miller or Stanley Roberts dominate.

    Shaq has talents aswell.
shaq has better footwork the Yao has. Shaq is more athletic. he can pass. Shaq is a freak he has alot of talents. Shaq can do more then only dunk. he has a nice hook and a nice turnaround. if he is close to the basket nobody can stop him.

do you think Yao is more talented then Shaq?
i do not think so. If you say shaq is dominant cuz he is freakishly strong, quick and agile. then you can also say that Yao can eb dominant because he is tall, and has good hands, and can shoot. those are all talents. Can you tell me of the next features wich are talents and wich aren't?

    Height
    Weight
    strength
    Speed
    quickness
    Jumping ability
    shooting
    passing
    Blocking
    rebounding
    Body control
    Agility
    ball control
    court vision

this is a serious question because if we want to discuss this we need to know what your definition is of talent

Do you guys remember that one All Star game where SHaq caught a rebound, went up the court for a fastbreak, and completed it on his own (yes, there were "defenders").

For a big man to do that is skill. I've also seen him do crossovers here and there. That's skill.

Don't even begin to tell me that holding the ball with one hand, and putting it in the basket at a better than 50% clip versus the most intense defense in the world is not skill.

I don't think he's incredbly skilled, but I think he's INCREDIBLY underrated in the department.

Besides, I know we're arguing about skill only, but who cares how he does it as long as he does it? Would we complain if Yao did it the same way? No. In fact, we've been begging Yao to do it the same wa.

    pradaxpimp, by your logic...

you can not improve as a shot blocker? you said shot blocking is a genetic gift. and then you said the shotblocking is not a talent. and then you said a talent is something that is honed over time. so the converse would be that since shotblocking is not a talent it can not be honed over time, and is based on athleticism only.

maybe, since Tree Rollins and Mutombo were phenomenal athletes.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Enough with Shaq. Lets get back to the people that really matter in this arguement. Jack Haley for one. Let us not forget about him in all of this. Lets not forget about the pure magic of Yinka Dare, the spell binding skill of Fennis Dembo, or the whirlwind of talent and fulfilled potential and expectation that is Sam Bowie. Lets get back to the real issues people.

Passing is more athleticism than skill? I guess Jason Kidd is not very skilled.

Man, I can't believe I am defending Shaq.

So switching back to the topic at hand.....I never liked Yinka Dare, how long did it take him to get his first assist? 2 years? Sure he did other stuff, but that's the only thing I think of when I hear his name. Is he the worst ever? probably not, but I thought I'd throw him in.

takin out of context bro. Shotblocking, Dunking, Reboudning is based a lot on athleticism than it is a skill

Passin is a lost art. Especially that blonde I saw tonight.

    Chris Dudley.

Dude was nothing but a big tall guy and his only value was that he had 6 fouls to give.
