Being a player is an 'in" getting a coaching job in the league, and while most players would do a much better job than me, there's a few in particular I'm sure would be terrible and probably comical as a head coach.

Ron Artest- If it's true that Phil Jackson can use his zen philosophy about life to get guys mentally where they need to be to compete... then I'd worry about a ship led by Artest. I could imagine his team leading the league in techs and fist fights.

Stro Swift- Imagine a world where most people are open to the possibility that Stromile has potential... as a coach. Imagine signing him to a contract... as a coach and watching him flower on the sidelines. Leaping and bounding over his players with ideas and strategies when he feels like it.

    Yao- "huh coach?"
(turns head to his good side)
    "huh?"
    "what?"
    "..."

As an aside, I'll bet Jack Nicholson could coach the Lakers and do an ok job.

I bet Yao is a good coach. He looks to have the smart and communication skills.

He does seem from his comments extremely thoughtful, dedicated and funny. Can you see him getting on a guy in practice though? I hate when people call him "too nice" as a player but in this case as a coach, it would seem to be an obstacle.

Maybe his accent could be tough to understand at times. Coaches have to talk so much and through deafening crowd noise. That's kind of the point of my "huh" joke. That and he is hard of hearing on his left side. He'd probably have to repeat himself, more so than other coaches, none of whom have as heavy an accent. He's a more articulate speaker than some who have spoken English their whole lives.

Now we can say with evidence... Scottie Pippen. I hope he never does anything in the league again.

Carmelo Anthony. He'll make a great coach. If the going gets tough, you just quit Melo' :)

funny you mention him, I recently read an espn article that attemps to analyze him and it mentioned how he would make a good coach given his acute awareness of game situations. It went on to say that it was part of the problem with his game.

Does a woman ever have a shot at an NBA coaching gig? I mean ever ever.

If she doesn't win, Hillary for Suns coach.

Eric Dampier: His coaching would be to insert himself in the game, and have everyone pass him the ball, because he's the greatest center to ever play the game.

Gilbert Arenas: Only saying it because maybe he's reading this message board and will prove me wrong.

Zach Randolph: Assistant coach, Isiah Thomas.

I read that article too, neat layout, he could be a great coach, but probably not a great game coach because of his inability to move on when refs have wronged him. He could be an awesome teacher of the game though.

Do you think he would make a good assistant coach? I like his basketball IQ.

Yes, and he would be one of the few that gets ejected from games.
