Yeah, I was racking my brain trying to think of one from The Police, seeing as how they are my all-time favorite band. Can't believe I missed that one. What were they thinking? Probably some inside joke that we'll never know.

It's an Andy Summers song. He probably begged Sting to let him get a song on the album, and this is what he came up with.

Kind of explains why we haven't heard much from him since the Police ...

    Here's an excerpt from www.andysummers.com:

The riff from my song "Mother" on the new album was originally in 4/4 time; it was another little thing I did in my kitchen, based on three different Arabic scales. But it certainly was rather compelling. Then I played around with it a bit and took it into 7/4 and then it really seemed to work.

At the time of writing this, I haven't prepared a story for my own dear mother, who I'm sure is going to be quite shocked and hurt when she finally gets to hear the song. But of course, she'll misinterpret it anyway, because it's not. . .this is a song for all men everywhere, not my poor old dear mom.

Whatever, Andy ... as you Brits would say, "It's crap."

Andy and Stew always resented all of Stings songs going on all the albums. Sting probably lost a bet and HAD to put an Andy song on there, so he picked the worst one just to make a point. Sounds like Sting. Maybe the same thing happened with Be My Girl/Sally, although I actually like that one. :D

I'm not a big Prince listener, but I think this song is brilliant. It's a weird cross between R&B and krautrock with no bass.

    Jane's Addiction - Of Course
    Touch Me - The Doors
    Let's Dance - David Bowie
All of Bad Brains' reggae songs

No, I guess I should look for that.

They should have put that on the best of 90-00 album. They put updated mixes of the songs from POP, they sound so much better. The song Gone, which was already good in my mind, was made even better.

SRV's guitar licks make that entire album worth listening too.

Except that they're not his licks - they're Albert Collins' licks.

Actually Stevie himself said he just played Albert King licks on that album:)

Stevie has fortuitous meetings with David Bowie and Jackson Browne at the festival: Bowie asks to Stevie to play guitar in his next album Let's dance, while Browne to record some material in his Los Angeles studio. Both offers are accepted. "In Bowie's album I wanted to see how many places Albert King's stuff would fit. It always does. I love that man. When that album first came out, Albert heard it. He said, "[sneering] Yeah, I heard you doin' all my **** on there".
