this is stupid. It's a case to where if Steve made the shot, he was the hero of all the minutes that was played tonight of any player... if he missed, all this bashing threads come about. I support him. Looks like I'm a loner in this.
He had very little chance of making the shot. It was an off balance fadeaway 3 after running around for 15 seconds. It was a stupid, stupid play. You, possibly some members of FAT, and Steve are the only ones that think that was a smart play.
I usually don't care who takes the last shot but give me a break! We couldn't have got a better shot off? What happened to ball movement, Although steve took a r****ded shot. JVG should have had better personel in the game and some play better than what was called. So I don't blame francis entirely.
Steve is just having a terrible year. Even taking away the last play, despite the decent looking stat line (18 pts, 11 boards, 6 assists), he still shot horribly and made stupid play after stupid play. For every good thing he did, he did something just as bad. And that doesn't even start to talk about his defense. Why wasn't Adrian Griffin in the game sooner? Everybody Steve tried to guard either blew right by him or played off his horrible pick-n-roll defense.
Guess what he meat was that SF actually dribbled for the entire 14 or 15 secs, w/o a remote chance to pull up a decent shot.
I just killed myself after that last possession. The afterlife rules. There is no more pain in my stomach when Francis turns it over on a fastbreak.
The play happened off of a missed FT, and we had no timeouts. There was not chance to script a play, and no chance to change the personnel. I don't think any play was called, because I am pretty sure JVG didn't call the dribble around like a moron and take the worst shot you can think of play.
And IMHO opinion... Yao and his "whiffs" lost the game. Steve wouldn't have needed to chunk up a bad decision in the first place. I call 'em how I see 'em. That's how I saw it. Lack of D... that just happened to be where "Charminy Softness" was standing. Sure his 25 pts. was needed and appreciated. But where was the D effort when it counted? Keep SF, I'll just be surprised if we do. (I'd like him at the 2 instead of Mobes.)
I don't think Steve ran it, whatever it might be, unless it is the aforementioned dribble around like a moron play.
DD Question . . WHY DID NO ONE ELSE EVEN MOVE!!!!?!??!?!!? Francis was at the top of the key NO PICK NO MOVEMENT NOTHING . . . . I maybe an Francis apologist but d*mn He seemed like he was alone out there Rocket River "I would have took a quick two and fouled again" - Brett Farve
in a Pick N Roll Situation what should Steve do? Fight Through or go around? What should the BIG MAN on our team should do? If a Pick N Roll is successful chances are BOTH players involved did wrong more than just one. Rocket River
Rocket River, agreed. After seeing the play again, it seemed like no one was really helping Steve out there. Padgett was open for a split second when Horry switched over, but Parker recovered quickly. After Steve went to the right, JJ was open for a split second, but that was at the other end of the court.....no more picks, cuts, anything really.....still a bogus shot really, but lets be real. If he goes for the 2 and misses, game is over. If he makes the 2, and foul, then they still have to go full court with no timeouts, and maybe 6 seconds.....this is not college basketball, its the Spurs defense, no full court heroics here. I was just surprised at the lack of movement around Steve....
If you have picked or moved with Stevie, but it turns out to be an isolation and desperate treys zillion of times, you will stay there like a statue.
Agreed. The Rockets in general defense the Pick n Roll really bad. Oh, and there's a reason teams run the PnR with Yao's man setting the pick....they know that he's not quick enough laterally to really stop or slow down the penetration. Also, on times when the outside penetration was cut off, we allowed either Ginobli or Parker to split the two defenders WAY too often. Just bad PnR defense in general. THAT, and not a last second 3, is the main reason we lost the game.
I get your point but with regards to SF everyone here needs to understand one salient fact: Whether you like or you don't like it, GET USED TO IT! You are seeing the real SF aka "The Franchise". He has made it plainly clear that he intends to continue to play "his game" regardless of what you, the fans, JVG and the rest of the Rockets organization want to see. This is as good as it's going to get so enjoy it while you can...
That's the only difference??? How about when the Spurs had the ball, they were not trailing and when the Rocks had the ball they were down by 3? Think that makes a difference in what kind of shots to choose? When Francis had the ball for that last 15 seconds, I too was looking to see if he was going to do his usual ISO play and he clearly was not. He was looking to pass to an open player, which one never materialized. Blame him for not going for a quick 2 and foul, blame him for not playing better for the 1st 3 quarters, but stop using the "dribbling out the clock to jack up a shot" blame for this play because that was not his intentions. I swear, many of you are blinded by hatred that you don't see what's there. I am no SOF, I too hate it when he used to and still occasionally do the dribble and Jack up shot, but I do see that he is trying to change his ways. This game was a team lost, not a lost just because of Steve. There is enough blame to go around.
How can many people blame JVG for not calling another play. Did not you people know that SF does not always follow the plays that JVG calls? SF has blown so many last shots that I don't understand why he continues taking them. It is fustrating to see the end of all games and quarters for that matter, SF take the ball and dribdle and dribble and then throw a brick. I am so disgusted with our backcourt. At the beginning of the game it was turnover after turnover. You can not win against a good team with such r****ded backcourt.
