If we offered expiring/non-guaranteed contracts, there's no way he'd be bought out...which is how we'd do it if we wanted him.
Bobby, Do you really think we'd want Lawson's contract on the books for 2016-17 now that he's on his 3rd DUI?
Poor Ty, born in the wrong era. Some NFSW language. Also Drunk Driving is one of the most selfish things anyone can do, he needs to get his stuff together. <div style="background-color:#000000;width:520px;"> <div style="padding:4px;"> <iframe src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/embed/mgid:arc:video:spike.com:34eeb6c8-f784-4f06-be22-a9302acdad18" width="512" height="288" frameborder="0"></iframe> <p style="text-align:left;background-color:#FFFFFF;padding:4px;margin-top:4px;margin-bottom:0px;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;"> <b><a href="http://www.spike.com/shows/viral">Viral</a></b> </p> </div> </div>
It would be a calculated risk. He'd cost little to trade for, and could potentially greatly help the team. I think it's worth it for the deal I proposed. We're trying to win THIS season, not punt the season away and prep for next season.
24 mil in someone who doesn't seem to care anymore is not a calculated risk. After buyout in a one year deal yes. I don't care if we trade only the likes of dorsey and prigs for him.
This makes him even more attractive. He can drive under any circumstances, which should open up shots for our shooters.
Ladies and gentlemen, This is how you do a joke in the GARM and keep it on-topic. Hillarious. I got coffee in my nasal passage now. Great job, Sen89. Repped.
He is going to get bought out now. No way anyone trades for that contract now. He is probably looking at a suspension as well. Save a little bit of MLE and take a flyer on him. Denver is already tanking and not in lux tax so they won't even have to stretch his contract.
There's no question that he won't have much of a market, which is why we could probably have him for nothing but non-guaranteed and expiring contracts. Sure it is. Also, it's not like trading those players away doesn't help the Rockets as well, it opens up roster spots that are at a premium. If it's down to wasting roster spots on Dorsey and Jones or taking a chance on Lawson, I take a chance on Lawson. If he bounces back, your team is awesome, if he doesn't, well, it sucks but 12 mil won't hurt as bad when the cap rises next year.
At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the Rockets pulled that offer off the table. Denver has to get rid of him now and there won't be a lot of options. The only other team I can see as a real fit to trade for him is the Knicks. Of course, Denver has incentive not to help the Knicks because they get to swap picks with the Knicks next year. Even if Lawson is a FA, there are limited options at this point in the offseason. If he wants to join a contender, many don't have a PG spot open, let alone cap room or the MLE. Most rebuilding teams have young Gs and probably wouldn't view him as worth the risk, even if they have more than MLE cap room.
$13 million in dead money obviously hurts very bad. That takes up almost all of the expected cap increase ($19 million). Bballholic is pretty much always wrong, but in this case it might be true the Rockets would need incentive to take on that risk. It would be very difficult to get rid of that contract if he screws up again.
Bobby, take the next step. He's toxic. There is NO TEAM that is going to trade for him. Nobody wants a guy that's had 3 DUI's on their roster making $25 million over the next 2 seasons....and knowing he didn't want to be with his last team. NO TEAM is going to take that risk. So, why should the Rockets????? The ONLY WAY Morey trades for Lawson is if he modifies his contract and makes his 2016-17 salary non-guaranteed. Now.....if he's willing to make his 2016-17 salary non-guaranteed....then does it make more sense to trade for him at $12.4 million?? Or does it make more sense to get him to agree to a buyout of a portion of the $12.4 million and then sign him to a part (or maybe all) of the MLE???? There's no way we trade for Lawson on his current contract without it being modified to a 1-year guaranteed deal. There's no way we give up substantial assets for Lawson. So, Denver either buys him out and then we possibly sign him for a very low risk contract. Or Denver and Lawson agree to modify his deal to make his last season non-guaranteed and then we trade expirings, Dorsey, and perhaps Johnson for him. Here's what I think happens if we actually want Lawson: 1a. Denver buys him out and we sign him to a portion of the MLE. 1b. Perhaps we generate a trade for another Denver player such as Gallo or perhaps Foye, where we send Denver a minor asset. In Foye's case, something like Jones for Foye straight up. In Gallo's case, perhaps the expirings plus Jones and Johnson (since we know they don't want Dorsey). or 2. Lawson modifies his deal to non-guaranteed in the last season and we then trade for him as essentially an expiring contract. #1 makes more sense to me than #2. And I emphasize, it only happens IF Morey actually decides he wants Lawson. Morey may STILL not want Lawson, even if he can get him for nothing but a low salary. HOPEFULLY everyone understands why I said yesterday that Lawson is only worth $3-$6 million to us. Or perhaps we would trade for him if he altered the guarantee to a non-guarantee on the final year of his deal.
This is from someone who has been pushing the Lawson train for at least 6 months: forget about this guy. Lawson obviously does not appreciate his chosen profession. Lawson is a walking time bomb. It is only a question of time before he does something even more stupid than a DUI and gets banned from the NBA.
