I watch every Rockets game, some several times. And last season I watched Lawson perhaps 10 times. Lawson might be close to being a top 10 point guard, but Harden is the best SG in the world, and Howard is a top 4 or so center. Is Lawson the third best player on the Rockets next season? Probably, but he is a distant third. And D-Mo at PF may eclipse him next season. And since Lawson is just a fire hydrant on defense Ariza is probably much more important to the Rockets than Lawson. Lawson is a nice addition that solves several roster problems. Nothing more.
When Harden was okc was he the best shooting guard in the league? Or did you now just notice he got better coming to Houston? Ty Lawson is now playing in Houston how do you know for sure he is just going to fill the position and possibly be surpassed by DMo. Some of these fans be trippin.
This shouldn't even be up for debate, you start Lawson along side Harden. Teams almost always start the better PG. You can bring a scorer of the bench for a spark but it's rare that teams don't start the better PG. You want to make sure your starters build chemistry and having Lawson come off the bench can disrupt that. Beverley is much better as a spark coming off the bench to provide stout defense and hustle. Lawson and Harden starting together is too deadly of a combination to not have on your starting line-up which would destroy defense sagging off their man and would give Howard easy lobs and dunks and Ariza open 3's.
If Lawson is not a starter it's because McHale doesn't have the skills to utilize all three in the starting lineup. Lawson, Harden and Howard should all make each others lives easier. With Howard focused on defense, rebounds, hard pick n roll and screens.
He should start, he and Harden need to get comfortable playing together as quickly as possible. If the opposing PG starts to light it up then bring in Bev. There will be an adjustment period as they feel each other out but the more minutes they get together early on the quicker they will figure it out, and the team will be better for it.
Why do people keep making this thread. Lawson will start barring injuries 100% and I'll tipjar bet any moron that feels differently.
ok this is just getting idiotic you guys b*itched and moaned to the high heavens all summer long how terrible Beverly is........ And that Morey needs to go get us a starting caliber Point Guard and that Beverly is a Glorified Role player who can not start next season without a point guard upgrade if we want to have title hopes Then the Great and powerful D Morey pulls a magic trick and somehow gets us a ALL STAR quality PG for basically nothing...... And we are actually really having a convo on rather TY LAWSON.......WHO IS A BORDERLINE ALL STAR.....and a step below Chris Paul and the Rest of the Star PG's in the west is gonna back up the same PAtrick Beverly you guys said could not be our starter next seaon??? you guys have no idea how good Ty Lawson is apparently and how him in the starting lineup next to harden and howard far outweigh any defensive liabilities by far its almost as idiotic as asking if we acquired Chris PAul , Mike Conley, or Damion Lillard somehow would we start beverly over them and bring them off the bench.... And Yes Ty Lawson is just about that good
I'm worried he won't be able to play the beginning of the year due to suspension. In that case, I think we should bring him off the bench once he's allowed to play, but eventually move him into the starting lineup once he's proved he's reliable and playing at a higher level than bevs.
Starter. Amazing how people forget the games they saw after only a few months. We need another ball handler WITH HARDEN! This isn't a Jeremy Lin situation where we have two players at a similar level, Lawson is the superior point guard. We need another ball handler so the opposition is unable to zone in on Harden. You can manipulate the rotation game by game depending on what is needed but Lawson starts.
Lawson starts. Bev comes off the bench to lock down the D. I like the idea that Lawson and Bev will also play giving Harden a rest. Any way you look at it, the inclusion of Lawson gives us options we haven't had the last 2 seasons and it's a good problem to have.
remember harden was inconsistent on d cuz he had to do all the work on offense with everyone injured. with a healthy dwight, dmo and now lawson at pg, harden doesnt have to be a walking triple double to win us games. he's gonna shut up a lot of haters
Here's what I'd like to see as far as rotation of guards. Harden 0-12, 18-24, 24-36, 42-48 (36 minutes) Lawson 0-6, 12-24, 24-30, 36-48 (36 minutes) Bev 6-18, 21-24, 30-42 (27 minutes) This is a rough guideline. The finishing PG will depend on matchup. On average Bev and Lawson probably both get around 30-32 minutes as the season wears on and guys are able to rest in blowouts. Harden probably averages 34 minutes. I'd rather start Lawson and then sub him out at 6 minute mark so it will be easier for him to get his 32-36 minutes without having to play huge stretches of minutes with no break. And, Lawson or Harden are on the court at all times.
I think it all depends on the matchup and how other team is going to play defense on Harden. Sure Beverly sounds better next to James, but then it exposed james as our only ball handler where they can just collaspe the defense on him. If Lawson is without his personal issue, our offense would be open up more as other team cant just double team Harden. They just cant shutting Rox up by shutting James. We get Lawson to pass the ball around. Ideally, Lawson is a better option to play alongside Harden during the playoffs. Reg reason, beverly can do it.
