What is the best (and cheapest) product to kill weeds? Is this one of the "you get what you pay for" products? I really have no experience in taking care of a yard so any help is appreciated. I am sure some of you are experts by now and could offer some helpful hints.

There are a few things you can pick up at Lowes or HomeDepot.

Ive not found a good one that won't kill the lawn around the weed also.

Scotts makes a fertilizer called Bonus S. It feeds the lawn and kills SOME weeds, but not all of them.

Best solution Ive come up with is to just pull them (roots included).

You get what you pay for with weed control products. Don't go cheap. First figure out what types of weeds are infesting your lawn, and take that knowledge and head to Home Depot and get advice.

I used Weed-B-Gone this year. I had to spray twice for good measure, but it worked nicely.

Bonus S Weed and Fead (plus weekly mowings) is the way to go. The St Augistine once it gets going will crowd out most weeds.

I use the bonus S. I put it out about 3 weeks ago and I'll do it again in about 3-4 more weeks. Not extremely cheap but it will definitely get the grass growing. when that happens, as NoWorries said, San Augustine will take care of the weed problem on its own.

I used a fertilizer last year and regretted it. My yard got thick and it was a b**** to mow. I would rather have the weeds. This year I'm just going to pee on them.

Better yet, take a nice, big dump on them!

Next time Meowgi uses his patented hangover 'cure' he can just sleep out in the yard...

A few of you make a good point. A good, thick, healthy lawn will take care of weeds.

I have a HUGE weed problem in my flower beds. Ugh. Hate those suckers.

You also have to use Bonus S early in the spring. For some reason, it doesn't work as well in May or June. I use Scotts Turf Builder fertilizer in the summer, about every 6 weeks.
