BUT....some moron on a bbs posted a misleading article with r****ded commentary that he implied meant something completely different than what common sense and history has said... (quoted 3x so the idiot might actually read this)
I would say good for Laura Bush, except that after making the statement she tried to use it to bash Obama and Biden.
I'm not motivated enough to find a supporting link now, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time Laura has expressed support for gay rights and marriage during a major interview, and she did so while W. was still in office. This was not news to me at all ... I've personally known her position on this for a long time and I'm surprised that more people don't recall it.
It wasn't so much support for gay rights as it was support for the issue to be debated. http://news.google.com/newspapers?i...3932,5147262&dq=laura-bush+gay-marriage&hl=en
so, is it safe to say he wouldn't be on your list of people who you'd consider offering free theater tickets to...?
We don't offer free tickets. But all of our performances (except opening nights) are pay-what-you-can and everyone is welcome.
from one of the links you posted: I do not think that the gay Marriage amendment is going to be a top priority for the president, this from november 2004, after the election, and well after the feb 2004 speech. so, he may have asked congress to draft such an amendment, but he never pushed for it. and the anti-gay rights amendments in the states were as much a product of actions taken at the local level than anything rove did. so the issue cuts both ways. regardless, where is obama/biden on this issue? they're both on record as saying they do not support gay marriage. what effect did obama's firm position on the issue have on prop 8 in california? if you can argue that bush's anti-gay marriage stance got him reelected in 2004, it's equally arguable that Obama's similar stance had the same effect in 2008.
Oh, I see what you are saying: that Obama's stance on gay marriage in 2008 helped bush get reelected in 2004. Is it so hard to ask you to share the time-travel technology that you use in posts like this with the rest of society? What a douche you are for hogging it all.
She didn't try to use it to bash Obama or Biden. A random blogger, who got caught in Basso's RSS feed made that distortion, and Basso was kind enough to share it with us.
I have not killed my brain cells with alcohol like you have so I would not make that judgement so fast.
Bush wants marriage reserved for heterosexuals 'We ought to codify that' Tuesday, October 28, 2003 Posted: 5:46 AM EST (1046 GMT) http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/07/30/bush.gay.marriage/
"I believe marriage is between a man and a woman, and I think we ought to codify that one way or another," Bush told reporters at a White House news conference. "And we've got lawyers looking at the best way to do that." - W
Is it just me, or did she not actually say she supported gay marriage? It actually sound like she supports civil unions with rights equivalent to marriage, but stopped short of supporting gay marriage saying it should be looked at and debated.
