Yeah, but by using cookies and IP address, they can make multiple voting very tedious. IMO, to do the IP address vetting, you just store the IP address in the DB with each vote, and daily post-processing to remove dupes.

People still think Yao Mean's ahead of Shaq for the All Stars because of overwhelming votes from China, but paper balloting in the USA alone puts Yao ahead! American fans who like Yao choose him because he's a charming character and is a real basketball player in this, his opening year w/ the NBA. But apparently Americans in general vote for Yao because he's a more of celebrity than Shaq is right now. The majority vote not being the most meaningful vote; but like pop music, everybody listens to it (Pink)..... but there are a lot of great non-pop music too (Glamourous Pharmacy).

As far as for the people fanciing (is that a word?) the Yao vs Shaq matchup...... they'll be teammates for the All Star game, and it'll be a unique opportunity for both Ming and Shaq to get to know each other in depth not as pro basketball players, but as brothers on the same boat. (Yao can pick up some wholesale Shaq-nique when praticing with Shaq!) Though, a fellow Rocketeer mentioned that Shaq may simply refuse to participate in the All Star Game if it doesn't meet his interest... so Yao is gonna have to figure out Shaq AMAP via videos and this January 17th opportunity.

BTW. Yao Ming is still a young tiger pup out on his first hunt...... he'll definitely get pushed around by the older wild animals...... and I really don't believe Yao Ming knows himself, that he's 300 pounds! Once he knows how to use that weight..... A 130lb guy can put on 30lbs (130lbs+30lbs=160lbs) w/ 6 months intensive weight training coupled with plenty of rest. I would think it's reasonable for Yao Ming to have fairly-easily built an additonal 40lbs of muscular bulk by the start of next season between his busy schedule. (296lbs+40lbs=336lbs=heavier than Shaq's listed weight at 335) I'm sure if Yao focuses strictly on weight training, he can bulk to over 400lbs... but of course, it'll mess-up his basketball game!

    Thanks for the article. :)

You said that Yao Ming has the potential to change the NBA game. What exactly did you mean by that? Those are some very strong words. I mean, there have been some pretty high impact big guys over the years, but your words are pretty pointed. -- Kevin R. Layne, Barbados

Yao isn't there yet, Kevin, but given the way he's progressed so far, it's not a reach to say he could change the game. At 7-feet-5, with his shooting touch, he is already unlike just about any other big man over 7-2 who's ever played NBA basketball. If he develops a potent low post game, he could someday join the likes of Mikan, Wilt, Russell, Abdul-Jabbar, Shaq, and Hakeem in the pantheon of great pivots. Each of them changed the game in some way -- whether it was through rules changes or style or technique. Already Ming is making an impact in at least one way: by bringing tremendous exposure of the NBA game to China, he is helping create a huge potential new talent pool.

What's your take on the 2001 Draft night trade between the Rockets and Nets involving Eddie Griffin for Richard Jefferson, Brandon Armstrong, and Jason Collins trade? Which side has the advantage? -- Jeffrey, Manila, Philippines

Both teams got what they wanted in the deal; Houston needed an athletic big man, while the Nets needed depth. But in terms of production so far, there is no doubt the Nets got the better of it. Richard Jefferson is a stud who plays at both ends and had a key role in New Jersey's run last year to the NBA Finals, while Jason Collins is a legitimate 7-foot center who looks like he could be a serviceable NBA backup for years to come. Griffin still could turn out to be the best of them all, but he's got a long ways to go to prove he's more than just an athletic shot-blocker.

No doubt? I believe the jury is still out on that one.

As for Steve being in the shootout...I hope he isn't.
He'll be out in the first round, because 1: he doesn't shoot the 3 that well, and 2: he shoots jump shots. The set shooters have a big advantage in this type of competition.

Yeah... have you been watching any games this season? Or at least looking at box scores?

The guy is shooting around 45% and is 5th in the league in 3pt%. If that's not "shooting well", then I don't know what is...

He's especially shot well as of late I think.

That right there is an AWESOME assessment of why Yao's being voted in in my opinion! Those are exactly my thoughts on how non-Laker NBA fans feel. Probably many others too... great to know that our non-LA nation is uniting in a hatred towards the unfair, cheap tyranny of Shaq!

Crap, meant to quote this in my last post, haha. Doesn't really matter though since no one seems to be posting here anymore.
