Glad I live in good ole' Texas when it comes to the death penalty. All these mother ****ers deserve to be tortured before being fried as far as I'm concerned.
Wow. It's awesome stuff and some other stuff is funny, too. I enjoy reading this kind of stuff because it's FACT, not fiction or stuff based on opinion, and it's also scary. As I understand it, not everyone who kills gets the DP. It is very, very, very difficult to get the death penalty granted to someone guilty... it has to be from something extremely atrocious. I believe, if I am not mistaken, it has to be from many circumstances of killing: peace officer, children, pregnant [woman, of course], many at once, or as a premeditated offense. Someone correct me if that has changed. I cannot believe, like someone has said, that with so much technology and advancements in medicine, they can't figure out with more certainty of the guilt of some people, and to prosecute the ones actually at fault. I support the death penalty. I changed my views on this as soon as I heard someone had murdered some kids back in the 80s. Now that I have family, it hasn't changed my view. Before you ask: Am I religious? Yes. Am I PRO-Life? Yes. I'll keep this in the Hangout by saying: LOL! I bet the same people AGAINST the death penalty are the ones trying to get out of JURY DUTY...
I've never understood the killing another person to gain closure either. I had a cousin that was murdered in Memphis because he unknowingly walked through a dice game while going into a store several years ago. The killer got off with just probation. Do I think he deserved more punishment than that, yes? Do I think he deserved the death penalty, I don't really think that is for me to decide. As others have said, I don't really think killing another person brings any type of closure. I think there is nothing gained by doing so. I don't understand why some people actually want to be there and watch that person die either. Different stroke for different folks, I guess.
What would constitute 100% certainty, to you? There could be 10 eye witnesses and DNA and there would be someone claiming the witnesses were mistaken and the evidence collection was faulty. And how would you know what you would want, in a situation where a loved one was murdered? Have you ever lost someone in your immediate family? What if it was your whole family and not just one of them? It seems to me like it would be hard to know how you would feel under circumstances that you've never been in. Walk a mile in someone's shoes, as the saying goes.
Well said and I agree completely. One of my aunts was killed when a burglar broke into her apartment and killed her when I was a few months old. I hear the guy is out of jail now. Do I want to hurt him? Yeah. But the death penalty isn't the answer. Would I feel better knowing the guy is off the street? Definitely, but knowing he was dead from the death penalty wouldn't make me feel any better.
If Premise 1 is a matter of opinion, then the argument is even more invalid because opinions should never considered truths Sure, moral skepticism comes into play. Opinions run rampant on what the Bible truly says, so its very hard (unless you're a religious fanatic) to agree that the Bible is completely true in every case and is infallible. I know you're scathingly against all forms of religion, so I was merely suggesting you should try to use logic to combat their arguments, instead of trying to adapt their own unsound arguments.
I don't want to walk a mile in those shoes, but for the time being, I'll go with what I believe. I'm only human, and I'm a flawed, so chances are if you kill my parents and hand me the gun, I'm going to blow your brains out and take a dump on your face and then light your body on fire. But kill someone I love, make me wait 10 years to see you executed, show total remorse, and chances are I would be wishing the Governor would call and stop you from getting fried. As for the evidence and proof thing, I'm not a crim justice person, so I can't really speak to that.
Based on the majority of the testimonials, it seems like suffering is a definite path to religion. Everyone wants to feel significant in the grand scheme things, and being a part of something that is perceived to be powerful allows this. It's why I always laugh when a religious person looks down on someone for not doing things "the way we do it".
cuz innocent people get killed by the justice system of untruth, and it has been proven to be racist. I wonder if any later to be proven innocent people have said, "I did not do it."
I don't think you can judge unless you've been there. My brother-in-law's neice was murdered 14 years ago. Here's an excerpt from the story. He was executed last year. I can tell you for a FACT that their whole family sleeps better at night knowing that this guy is no longer alive. The nightmares that the other children (now adults) have had for the last decade have now stopped. They FINALLY have closure and I don't think that's "messed up" at all. DM, you seem to have a problem with people being wrongly convicted. So do I. But I just think that's a completely different issue than just the DP.
Whoa bro that was deep. You sure they weren't executed for smokin' a joint? American education system working well here.
Agree there. But given that, I'll never understand, other than the fact people are flawed and emotional (vengeful, etc), how someone can get closure or comfort from killing another person as retribution for a past crime. Maybe I just answered my own question.
ima, that story is horrible... and I have no problem whatsoever with them frying the son of a b**** who did it. Just absolutely sickening. Now, don't get me wrong... but whether or not they feel "closure" is irrelevant to the punishment though I suppose. The law is supposed to be an impartial to "feelings" and rightfully so, everyone does have a right to a fair trial. If not, you've got anarchy and lawlessness on your hands. Nothing is more frightening than a human being who isn't afraid of repercussions for his actions. I think we can all agree that our justice system is flawed, because we as humans can't really create something infallible when we ourselves are as ****ed up as anyone else. However, we are forced to abide by it in order to keep up with the social contract we keep in order to sustain a functioning society. I know I'd hate to be one of those people who has to decide whether a man lives or dies when the evidence isn't exactly concrete and open-shut, but you've got a family crying their eyes out screaming for justice when really all they want is vengeance regardless of who it is carried out on.
I remember on 60 minutes where this one women got this man in jail for 20 years because she Ided him, and sure it was him. 20 years later they found out someone else. Eye witness even when they think they know for sure have a high chance of being wrong.
Okay, if your going to make outragous claims that the DP is "Proven Racist" then im going to need to see the proof your talking about. Otherwise your just talking out your ass.
I see how that can easily be misread... Bro... heh, but if you understood reading comprehension you would understood that statement to be joined as rape than murder... I.E. girl gets raped than murdered. So with joining those two words we are disregarding the burglary and murder, the drug deal and murder etc. etc....
I thought it was pretty much known that African-Americans are treated more harshly when they are defendants, and their lives are accorded less value when they are victims.
That's interesting, but what does it have to do with the death penalty? As far as the family of the victim I mentioned above, they were never vengeful towards the guy at all. It was never about revenge. I know this for a FACT. It was never about "let's FRY him!!!!!". They actually forgave him - but forgiving someone doesn't mean they shouldn't pay for their crime. That's really all I can say about it. You may disagree but you can't really judge unless you've been there. I grant that everyone is different. That's why I think it should be up to the victim's families. Anyway, I am respectfully bowing out of this thread. Too much negative energy being brought up and I don't need it right now.
