The Simpsons changed America. The cultural impact is close to Star Wars. So while some make make you laugh more in 2007. None are greater as a whole. South Park is second imo.

I agree that The Simpsons "changed America" in some respects. Actually, I can even admit that The Simpsons were great until about 96. (I stated 93 earlier in this thread, but can see that they had a few good years in them after that.) They had the impact because they were the first mainstream, "primetime" cartoon to show up on the scene since the days of The Flintsones and The Jetsons. The fact that we can even list the shows mentioned in this thread can be attributed to the success of The Simpsons. Their significance (other than being "first") is compounded by the intense marketing strategies and product development. In that sense, Southpark definitely comes in second. However, neither of those shows make me "laugh more in 2007" than most of the cartoons on [adult swim].

    Star Wars? MEOWGI, you're slippin'...

    ;)

Nothing can last forever. TS had character development and social criticism that was never seen previously in a cartoon. It was really cutting edge for it's time. There was nothing else like it. But yeah I don't even watch the new episodes anymore. But it used to be a Sunday night ritual. Still there is something very comforting about having the reruns on Fox in the background after coming home from work. It just makes me feel like everything is ok in the world for half an hour. That's all I really need in my old age.

And they've been showing some classics lately. The Skinner/Crabapple (sp?) hooking up episode was on last night.

Star Wars? I have never understood the appeal of this series.

It created a boon for today's sfx movies and destroyed the golden age of science fiction.
