I got contact lenses today. I had hard ones a few years ago, but got soft now. I still don't feel that comfortable with them in. I guess it is just a matter of getting used to them.

I wish I had the money for Lasik.

Donny I am seriously considering it, after you get it done if you would describe it in detail I would be MOST grateful.

I am now about 11 weeks since lasik.

One complication that arose was Transient Light Sensitivity (TLS). I didn't know about it before, but from what I read after, it affects about 1% of people who get it using Intralase (bladeless). For about 1 week after, I was going as expected.. then after I stopped the steroid drops, I slowly developed this pain. I figured it was dryness since that is common, but the artificial tears didn't alleviate the internal eye pain and burning. It got to the point that it was preventing me from sleeping...and I would start "crying" when I got in the car in the morning.

At my 2 week followup, they said it was TLS, and the method of treatment is a strong course of steroid drops. From what I read online, they don't know the cause of TLS or even what it actually is--only that a) your good vision is maintained and b) nothing looks wrong to the doctor in your eye. But a strong course of steroids has been proven to work.

So over the next 6 weeks or so, I used the steroid drops (felt fine 2 days after starting them) and slowly tapered off them to prevent the problem from coming back. I've been off the drops for 2 weeks now, and my eyes are still fine. I have light sensitivity like most who had LASIK, but sunglasses deal with it just fine. (And no pain/burning anymore)

In terms of vision--that has been great throughout. I was a blurry 20/20 for the first week, 20/20 after 2 or 3 weeks, and at around 8 weeks I was at 20/15 (better than 20/20). Of course, I started with a very low power, so I'm guessing that helped with the great results.

and of course, good luck. Definite success for me--TLS affects very few patients, but of all the side effects, I'm glad I got one that was quickly treatable with no lasting effects or downsides (yet)

I had it done last november so I am about 6 months post LASIK and it was worth every penny. I had it done with Charlie Moore and I see great. I have no problems other than some dryness and that is taken care of with drops.

I got mine done about a week before brentdapmp, at the same location, and I'm about 99.9% happy with everything.

My only qualm is that there is a difference in clarity between my eyes. To begin with, my left eye was worse than my right due to astigmatism, and that trend carried over after the procedure. It's hardly noticeable (my left eye is 20/20 while my right is 20/15) unless I sit there and close one eye, open it, close the other, and then compare the two. It's a nitpick, really.

That considered, I'd do it over 100 times out of 100. After 6 months without glasses, I've almost forgotten what it's like to have to wear them. And I can finally wear sunglasses! The only thing that reminds that I used to wear glasses is that when my eyes get out of focus, I still instinctively touch my finger to the bridge of my nose. :D

To recap, if you don't like glasses or contacts, do it. Don't even think about it; it'll be one of the best investments you ever make. I have to recommend my guy, Dr. Charlie Moore, but your only consideration should be where you get it done.

    Will do.

I can start now by telling you I went online and scheduled a consultation 2 days in advance.

Went in (their office is in the greenway area), and was out in about 90 minutes.

They did a pretty thorough job and were very nice and professional the whole time.

I would have scheduled it 10 days later, but the MS is screwing up my plans, so I have to wait.

My brother and sister both used them and liked their results, so I have high hopes.

Has anyone ever heard of Implantable Contact Lenses (ICL)? Heard it was much safer and reversible as well as clearer vision. But more expensive.

yes, and on top of that, a million times more invasive! They actually go in and put something in there.. safer in terms of more known side effects--and safer due to reversibility. But I would wager to say the recovery time will be longer, and you have all the risks of an invasive procedure.

I went in for a consult for this and the doctor said the recovery time was less than a day. All they do is poke a little hole in your cornea and maneuver the contact lens to fit behind your pupil. They actually did this on the Today show for one of the correspondents and he saw "HD Vision" right after they inserted it.

wow, ok..didn't know it was so easy.

regardless, i'd prefer the one without holes (and without actually inserting something artificial). Though I realize laser probably does as much damage overall as 1 small hole

In my case, my cornea cannot take the laser as it is too thin as it is, and the laser could permanently screw up my vision. The hole they make is the only recovery part of the procedure and it usually heals less than a day.

Just had my proceedure done yesterday.

    Initial thoughts.

I was NOT given pain killers before the surgery OR afterwards so I could "sleep it off" when I got home. Something now I am very upset about, as everyone else I have talked to who had this procedure was given.

I have EXTREMELY sensitive eyes. (light, dust, touch, etc)

The surgery was very uncomfortable, but quick (those with light sensitivity and sinus problems will HATE it)

I got done at 10am, and I was so sensitive to light I could not open my eyes until 5pm. I was literally blind and had to have a friend walk me to my apartment, etc. I went to the darkest place I could, my bathroom, and laid on the floor in agony for 8 or so hours, tossing back tyelnol PM in vain to try and relieve the pain. I was literally so sensitive to light I had to place towels under the bathroom door to prevent any and all light from coming in.

    Second day.

I am using my drops religiously and now I can open my eyes and look around (although not at light sources, or light colored objects) without pain. I went in for my checkup and my vision is supposedly 20/15. It feels like crap though, like i've got wet sand in my eyes. Plus my eyes have these very grotesque blood rings around them. Those are supposed to go away after 2-3 weeks, but I have my doubts.

I haven't gone back to work yet, but I will tonight.

On the plus side I get to wear my pimp-tight Oakleys indoors

My immediate reaction would be to never, ever recommend that anyone go to the place where I had mine done. I think it was very negligent of them to send me home without pain killers.

Donnymost, you should post where you went so that people can be wary of this place in case they are considering LASIK. I do assume you got intralase LASIK surgery, and not PRK or something different, right?

i had mine done 3 weeks ago at a place called Eye Center of Texas near Bellaire/610.

they gave me Valium before my LASIK surgery. the procedure takes about 3-5 minutes (it felt like). i could see later that night, and due to the valium and taking a couple tylenol PMs, i slept a lot that day. the next day i could already see. you have to take drops, but it's not bad. i had some blood spots on my eyes, but they did go away after about 2 weeks. my eyes don't even feel dry anymore, i just put artificial tears in just in case.

i had astigmatism in my left eye, yet it hasn't caused any vision problems. i can see 20/20 in my left, and 20/15 in my right eye. i used to have a -6.5 and -6 prescription before surgery. i am so happy i got it done. one of the best decisions i've made.

the cost was quite a bit, 3990 for both eyes, but i think it's absolutely worth it. i couldn't see anything without contacts or glasses, and i hated dealing with eye products.

I got mine at LasikPlus here in Austin. Totally worth it, but I sorta freak when I was under the laser and the guy "keep your eyes focused on the light, even if the light moves don't move your eyes".

Someone says, "don't think of a donkey" and what do you do?

Anyway, it sucks at first, but totally worth it.

I'm considering Lakik, but I'm really freaked out about the possibility of it going wrong. Just the idea of something touching my eyeballs gives me the heeby-jeebies. I can't even wear contacts. Also, the whole issue with Brian McCann having post-Lasik trouble is another cause for concern.

I hope it all works out for you, Donny.

Got mine done last Dec. and it's been great. Had it done in SA at UltraVision with Dr. Stark, supposedly some kind of world-renowned expert on the whole process. Cost a little extra but I've had no complications whatsoever.

As far as the day of, he gave me a couple of sleeping pills, said sleep for 6 hours and you should be good. Went out to a restaurant that night after having surgery at 8 or 9 in the morning. The process itself seemed to last only 2 or 3 minutes and was broadcast through close-circuit to my gf that was waiting right outside for me. Great experience all around, they also give you great gifts for referring people into the future, got a $200 pair of sunglasses and a $75 gift card to an Italian place there in SA for my buddy I sent their way.

I'd highly recommend at least going to check in and getting a free consultation there to see what they can do for ya.
