I am going to get it done on Nov. 20th at International Eye Care by Dr. Charlie Moore. Half my office has had LASIK by him and they love it. I am very excited
Re-bump. I'm getting it done there today... really nervous about the whole thing, but I was just as nervous getting my wisdom teeth taken out too. I just worry. If I don't post an update, that means I've gone blind.
i was scared and asking a million questions but once you get it done, i was like "That's it???" it was a piece of cake!! really, there is nothing to worry about! just like getting a shot or in line for a scary roller coaster ride, the harder you make it in your mind, the worse it is for you. oh and btw, i LOVED the vallium!! that helps alot too! good luck!! i'm at 7 mths and LOVE every moment of it!!

You'll love it. Trust me. I had my final post-op exam 3 weeks ago. My vision is now somewhere between 20-15 and 20-10. I couldn't be happier. It cost me $4400, but it is the best money I've ever spent.
Berkeley Eye Center on Weslayan near West Alabama. $4400 ($2200 each eye). They will finance it 100% with no interest for one year. I paid half down and financed the other half, which is pretty much paid off already.
Go to you tube and type in Lasik surgery it shows the whole procedure, the cutting of the eye and everything.
All done with my procedure. It wasn't too terrible to be honest, and thus far I'm pretty thrilled with it. Like others have said, the Valium is a big difference maker.
Congrats! Like I said...for me, nearsighted as hell from age 8 on, it was like buying a whole new life. Hope you feel the same.
Had my procedure this morning finally. Thought I'd update you guys. Procedure was pretty short and easy. The valium helped a little, but I wish they had either given it to me earlier or give a bigger dose. I swear it kicked in at full strength about 15 mins after the procedure. As I mentioned to the person who asked, I'm not good with getting eyedrops in my eyes. And in that respect, it probably was a little harder for the doc to get the drops in my eyes andto get the eyelid retractor on me. Once it twas on, not a huge deal...though he kept asking me to focus on the red light, and apparently I wasn't doing a great job of that. (It kept moving around!) Anyway, the pain wasn't so greaet about 30 mins afterwards, but after the first nap...it's been just an annoyance type of pain, nothing terrible. We'll see after the follow-ups tomorrow and next week!
I had it done at Mann eye today and it was worse than i expected. They put a vacume hose on your eye to open the flap and i did not know i would go blind for like a minute so that was really unsettling. Then you have to deal with them moving the flap around with a tool on your bare eye. Idk. I thought it would be a really easy but it was disturbing. Just does not last too long which is good. My eyes are already better than they were but still fuzzy. They just feel heavy.
I am supposed to get a pretty big sum of money for my birthday via my Grandfather's will. Lasik is certainly one thing I would love to get done.
Did you take the valium? What kind of procedure? I did the Intralase.. so they used a laser to create the flap. I went "blind" for about 10-15 seconds in each eye..not a minute. And they didn't move the flap around with a tool...unless it was during that 10 seconds I was blind. It was really easy and fast to me. But yes, it was uncomfortable. I also expected it to be super comfortable, and it's not that. But 10 minutes of uncomfortableness is easy enough to deal with.. I wouldn't have called it "disturbing" for mine. And so far, my vision is better. I feel like it's not 100% yet, but I have my next-day-followup in an hour. I accidentally took the eye shields off in the middle of the night for an hour or 2 while I slept.. I'm kind of afraid of what I might have done, but I'm hoping if I had done any damage, it would have been obvious by now
It was at Mann eye so they used the latest technology. They used these hoses to get the flap uncovered and you are right. It may have been only around 15 seconds that I was blinded but i was really anxious so it might have felt longer. They started using tools on my eyes after they were done with cutting the flaps. I think they used them to move the flaps back in place but i can't be sure. I was just watching them using these tools on my bare eye ball. They did give me valium but was not anywhere near enough to where i consciously noticed. I woke up this morning to pretty good vision. I see really well far away (like highrises off in the distance of my balcony but some of my intermediate is a little fuzzy. They said it would get better by tonight and again the next couple days. You have to put an ungodly amount of eye drops. One is just to keep them moist which is every hour and the other two are for infections which are only 4 times a day. For the most part, life is back to normal for me. I have a couple blood spots on my right eye but other than that, it's pretty normal.
