    I'll quote myself! yay.

I got Lasik done a little over 25 months after posting the above. So April 2007.

The cool thing is that I got 18 months no interest financing, so that helps with the expense.

As for the procedure, it's pretty awesome. I mean, I can see! Now, int he first 4 or 5 months after the procedure I was definitely at 20/15 vision. I have since reverted back to 20/20 and at night I think I am just a little worse. Why did this happen? I don't know exactly, but a job that requires a lot of computer time certainly doesn't help. Plus, I'm basically at 20/20 all the time, which is freaking awesome.

It's just been over a year and other than remembering it sucked wearing glasses/contacts, I can barely remember those days. I wake up and feel like I was born with perfect vision.

So yes, Lasik is awesome. I'm sure I'll have some issues as I grow older, but I imagine I'd have those regardless.

I went to Berkley Eye Center on Weslayan.

I got it done at Berkely Eye almost 3 years ago and it was well worth it. I had extremely bad vision before and was pretty much perfect up until a couple months ago because I regressed a tad. But I never had problems like halos/night vision.

My sister also got it done at Berkely about 4 years ago and she still has perfect 20/20.

Had mine done in 2003 at The Lasik Vision Institute over by The Galleria. Have had zero problems. Completely changed my life and I would recommend it to anyone.

    Here is their website:

I thought they like sewed your eyes so that wouldn't happen.

Do you think it can it go down to where you were before the surgery if you continue working at that job? I wouldn't want to have to get it twice (if you can get it done twice.)

My wife had one and now she's wearing glasses again. She had a bad experience with lasik so she's not planning to get another one although it came with a sort of a lifetime warranty.

My vision has deteriorated noticeably in the last 2 years or so but it is still pretty good, I guess (L:-1.00, R:-0,5), but I am annoyed that I can't see clearly. I have thought about laser surgery but am not considering it at the moment. I'm 20.

A few questions. Does it matter what age is the surgery done? How long will I have perfect/very good vision? And if, for example, at age 30 or 40 it sucks again, could I have another surgery?

Hopefully it won't get as bad as it was before surgery, I was -21.00 in both eyes and got it when I was 22. I'm in law school right now and spend a ridiculous amount of hours either staring at a laptop or reading, and I really began to notice that I needed glasses again after my first semester.

You can get it twice and Berkely basically gives you a 2-year warranty for which they'll do the surgery for free in case you regress. Unfortunately, because my eyesight was so bad, they had to laser off a high amount of tissue the first time therefore they weren't able to perform a 2nd surgery.

I'm going to bump this again..

I'm wondering if anyone has done enough research to help me decide between regular Lasik and Custom Lasik w/Bladeless Intralase.

Custom Lasik advantages as I understand them:

-Uses a wavefront machine to make a 3D image of your eye. The machine will use that image to figure out how to work on your eyes. It uses a different strength of laser as necessary on diff parts of your eye (as opposed to regular Lasik which uses 1 strength based on your power).
-Bladeless Intralase makes a more shallow incision for the flap on your cornea, making the healing faster. Also helps to make dry eyes less of an issue.
-Night vision and halos are less of an issue afterwards.

    Disadvantages:
    -cost

Basically, I can't figure out if I need Custom. I don't have very bad vision at all (-1.5 or so..just barely enough to need glasses on my license)...so the goal of this is to get to 20/20 completely. My only problems right now are sitting in the back of a movie theater, back of a meeting with powerpoint/whiteboard going on, and seeing street signs (esp. at night).

So I'm wondering if Custom is needed just based on the fact that my night vision needs to be improved for me to be satisfied. Also I've read that the %age of people that get back to 20/20 after surgery is 80% with Custom and 54% with Regular Lasik.. but I figured people with my low power might *all* get back to 20/20 with either procedure..maybe.

I do have some astigmatism, if that matters.

My older bro got this done a year ago. He's happy with the results. He did it through the army though. You have to be very careful with your eyes after the surgery. I think my brother was OCD over it though.

i was -6 in my left eye and -8 in my right eye, both with astigmatism. i've worn glasses since the third grade in 1987 and got hard contacts (rigid gas permeable (RGP)) in the sixth grade in 1990 and have been wearing them ever since. my astigmatism was bad enough that i couldn't wear soft contacts.

fast forward to 2008 and i had LASIK done in april by Dr. Lipksy on Fuqua and 45. I did a lot of research, went to 4 different places for consultations, estimates, etc and i was much more at ease when i got the facts from them and talking to people.

they told me since my eyes were pretty bad, there is a chance i'll have to get an enhancement which is a touch-up. in april, i got both eyes done and my left has been 20/15 ever since, my right eye ended up 20/70 so we redid it in september and i'm 20/15 in both eyes now.

it was one of the best things i've ever done and i strongly recommend it for those who are ready and willing. if you are squeemish or terrified, don't bother since it is a voluntary surgery. it is quick and amazing though and def life changing for me!

also, ppl often say "i have really bad eye sight" and then when i ask them, it's like a -3. you kidding me?!? they do surgery up to -14 so get your facts straight before you rule yourself out.

and if you go to dr. lipsky, tell them i sent you. :)

i don't know how to answer your question exactly but i had the Intralase done in which the laser puts in little air bubbles that connect and form the flap. your healing process will prob be a breeze since they do not need to ablate (remove/burn) much from your eye.

    I got the custom done.

All I would say is, this is your eyes your talking about. You may not necessarily need the newest and coolest tv, or the most awesome car, you may even skimp on something like toilet paper (because, at the end of the day, it's you a-hole, right?), but these are your eyes...go with the better, more advanced procedure...

same thoughts I had. Can I ask what you paid?

They're quoting me 4790.. i have a 250 coupon from my friend who got them done, so it's 4540 (custom, bladeless, everything included in that price...including lifetime warranty).

No insurance coverage included...if I did insurance, I'd cut it to 3790, but then I'd have to pay an extra $1200 over the course of a year for the better insurance package at work.. so still a net higher cost.

($4540 for custom.. vs. somewhere in the range of $2500 or $2800 for regular)

I was a little lower...around $4200, no insurance. maybe it's gone up? sometimes it depends on your eyes, too. mine were pretty straightforward.

with that, not saying that you can't go the old-school, $2,800 way and still come out with perfect vision. Just personally, I really really really value being able to see, and all, and $2,000 bucks over the course of my life is nothing even when compared with a <0.0000001% (just making that up, don't know actual %, but assume small) increase in risk of something bad happening.

Got mine done at Mann Eye about 2 years ago. Cost me about $3000 (which I think was after a 10% discount from my cousin who worked there).
I love it. I have issues late night with my eyes drying up but I had that with my contacts too. They knew that going into the surgery because they had clogged my eyes to make sure it didn't drain too fast and kept it moist.

cool, thanks for that.. mine are very straightforward also. But I'm also going to the best place around here cause 2 of my friends went there.. (same doc who did Tiger Woods, among many others..)

Yeah I feel the same way as you on the <0.0000000001% chance
