I'm going in August and I'm debating between some 30-60 dollar a night places. I've stayed at the Excalibur before and it wasn't bad. Some others I'm looking at are the Stratosphere, Hooters, Imperial Palace, Tropicana, Harrah's and off the strip, the Golden Nugget. What do you guys think? I'm open to any suggestions...

I used to be heavy into poker...now it's mostly pool/spa during the days with great food and partying at night. Rinse and repeat.

    it's phenomenal.

I went on Cirque du Soleil's website and got a discount code, you get a huge discount.

I stayed at Aria twice this year, it's pretty good. Very nice room and the pool area was cool. DJ poolside was spinning old school Bobby Brown and Tribe called Quest. Chillin..

I disagree, its supposedly voted "best buffet" but its not anything better than the other buffets, I went to MGM's buffet 2 years ago, and I think it was a few bucks cheaper and I thought it was just as good. Not sure why Spice Market is getting all the attention.

u thought Excalibur wasn't bad? I didn't even want to be in their casino cause it was smokey and old... I stayed at Imperial Palace last week, is comparable to Excalibur, I'd rather spend the extra 10-15 bucks/night to stay at Harrah's or Bally's. If you stayed at Excalibur last time, its better to stay on the other side of the strip this time. Harrah's and Bally's are good locations because it's right smack in the middle close to Caesars/Bellagio/Venitian/Palazzo/Wynn

As far as shows go, you can't go wrong with Blue Man Group at the Venetian. Probably the best Vegas show I've seen....and I've seen lots of em.

If you are looking for something fun, a little more low key and a lot cheaper, there are several good comedy clubs in town. The one I've been too several times is The Comedy Stop at the Tropicana.

Sounds like you already picked the hotel, but if you want advice, skip the Circus Circus. Its an old grungy 2 star hotel and there are more central hotels. Same advice goes for the Tropicana, Imperial Palace, Flamingo and most of the "bargain" hotels.

At the same time, places like Wynn, The Venetian, Bellagio and (I assume) Aria, are all a bit too high end for my wallet. Beautiful places...but they let you know it.

My favorite is The Mirage. Its central to a lot of other hotels, nice recently remodeled rooms with great views, well maintained property, awesome sports book (super important to me), good poker room adjacent to sports book, reasonable table limits, and good eats throughout. If you go there, look for the Carnagie Delicatessen and order a "Woody Allen" sandwich. Its enough for 2 BIG meals. Literally. Perfect for that Saturday afternoon in the sports book to watch College football outting.

If sports books are important to you...here's the best IMHO. Mirage, Caesars, Las Vegas Hilton, Mandalay Bay, Planet Hollywood.

As for "gentlemans clubs", its been awhile since I've done that there but I've heard Sapphire is an experience. Olympic Gardens is a dump and a bit on the seedier side of town. Spearmint Rhino was great. Still kinda off the beaten path but a nice "experience" inside. This is as of 6-8 years ago so take it for what its worth.

Best advice for a first timer is to try to take it all in and don't expect to do much sleeping. Try to pace yourself with the drinking. Its hot and dry there and all the walking, drinking, partying can sneak up on ya if you aren't careful!

    Have fun!

if you're willing to stay in old downtown, i really liked Golden Nugget after they renovated a couple of years ago

And like i mentioned in here, Tropicana's renovated tower is solid, as is their casino (and I never would have said that before the renovation--it's really very different in there now imo)

yeah, the monte carlo is pretty decent cheap place on the strip, plus the location is way better than circus circus.

to the OP, like every other person here said, get the F out of circus circus or your post vegas thoughts would be like this:

did you have a great time in vegas?
    yes!

would you stay at the circus circus again?
    oh hell no!

The buffet at the Bellagio is AWE-freakin'-some.

Say HELLO to all my peeps with the advertisement little business cards on the side of the road in the strip for me, please. ;)
I heard from 3 unrelated people that this thing is BO-RING.

    if it helps any

the rockets stayed at the Golden Nugget last week when they were there for summer league

but i wouldnt make my decision based on that they were being sponsored and had a limited budget.

Imperial Palace was ok..the room we had was really nice after an upgrade but I felt the casino was a bit small, the parking lot was far having to go through alleys and elevators and more importantly the elevators inside the casino were really slow and limited it always took forever to get an elevator. the price and all was great though and the location was good if you want to do things on the strip.

Was just there a month or so ago...and have been numerous times in the past...

Tryst (Wynn) and Tao (Venetian, but I think they still have the 1 guy 1 girl rule) are by far my favorite places to club/dance/drink/hit on women...Every hotel has at least one club and honestly, there always a dude handing out free passes...

I saw "O" and I fell asleep...but I did see Mystere this past trip and loved it...I saw Phantom too and it was solid...

Not sure how long you'll be there, but you have to try one of the pool party places (Friday=Palms & Sunday=HardRock), but Tao Beach is alright and I hear the Tropicana has one now too...

Plan to sleep on the plane as you won't sleep much...Grand Lux Cafe in the Venetian has a great breakfast buffet that isn't too expensive...Downtown and the older hotels have the cheap steak deals...Try the hole in the wall places off the strip...I took my b/f to Nora's, an italian place and it was really good...

If you like to hike, Mt. Charleston is only about 30 minutes away...Plus Zion National Park is only a two hour drive...

Me and my roomate are going the first week of september, she's never been, i havent been in 8 years. We got reasonable flight/hotel package at Planet Hollywood on the strip, 6 days 5 nights, plus flights and shuttle for under $650 each.

During the day we plan to do some touristy stuff, hoover dam, grand canyon and whatever. Lots of good ideas on this thread, thanks!

I suggest KA if your going to see a show. If your into the sports books my personal favorite is the Las Vegas Hilton. DO NOT STAY AT THE IMPERIAL PALACE

Whatever you do, get the night started by hanging out at the penny slots and chugging all the free drinks they give you.

If you tip well, they'll start bringing you 2 at a time. This works better downtown than it does on the strip.

I stayed at the Luxor in June for $50 a night and last I checked they were down to $40 a night. This is during the week. Weekends are much more expensive.
