Would be awesome but not a good idea on the sports integrity front. The NFL rosters are huge, pay scales low enough, and add career/life threatening injuries, you could see fringe players getting persuaded. Other sports don't have those issues.
That's going to primarily be used for hockey once the NHL moves a team there. With all the rumors of Arizona moving there, it's probably likely to happen sooner or later.

I think you're slightly jaded... the NFL fully accepts (and basically embraces) the amount of gambling that is done weekly on their games, and if they don't think its a driving interest, they should support a law making it illegal to bet on NFL games anywhere. What I don't get is boxing (a heavily gambled sport) typically takes place in the very same city where the gambling is occurring. Don't see why it would be much different in the NFL. If there was corruption, its not like the few hundred miles between vegas and California/Arizona is a clear deterrent.
Because California and Arizona are too far for those "persuaders" to travel to? Players can only be persuaded in Vegas? Somebody's been watching too many Scorcese movies...
Mainly due to market size and the lack of a consistent corporate base... Not due to the gambling. That being said, an NFL team would probably work there, given the limited amount of games and favorable weather in the winter time.
Exactly... In addition to pro boxing, you can bet on UNLV and UNR basketball and football games in any sports book in the entire state of Nevada. College football bowl games and college basketball tournaments also take place in Las Vegas and they are available for wagering. Hell, you can bet on NBA summer league games that take place on the campus of UNLV and the one or two NBA pre-season games that are played in Vegas every year. The final nail in the coffin of the flimsy "you can't have sports teams in Las Vegas because of gambling and potential for corruption" argument is the fact that the city is most likely going to get an NHL team. Pro hockey is a sport that is heavily bet on as well. People just need to get over the stigma associated with sports betting and embrace it. Adam Silver has at the very least gotten over the stigma. It is undeniable how much sports betting contributes to the increasing popularity of sports. See Salaga, S., & Tainsky, S. (2015). Betting Lines and College Football Television Ratings. Economics Letters, 132, 112-116 for an example that supports and demonstrates that point. In Europe you have kiosks and betting booths inside stadiums that take wagers on EPL soccer games both before the game begins and live wagering while it's taking place. This doesn't even account for all the mobile sports betting that goes on. The nation will eventually come around the same way it did when Nevada first legalized gambling on slots and table games in the 1930s. Back then, people were trying to revoke Nevada's statehood, but now legalized gambling has expanded to other states. I would love to see the Las Vegas Raiders become a reality.
And I can't see hockey surviving there either. They should just build the stadium for daily arena shows for Eminem and Limp Bizkit and Miley Cyrus. And FWIW, it looked pretty cool when we drove by it last August. It's just weird how it's basically hidden behind a casino on the strip. Only in Vegas.
Well a casino on the strip is gigantic enough to hide a 20k stadium. I don't even think i've ever noticed the mgm grand arenas

Looks like the Raiders are going to hold off on any commitments to see what happens with the Chargers. The Rams have an agreement with the Bolts but so they have a lot of leverage over San Diego. The NFL is now offering an additional 100 million for a new stadium there so it's possible they stay. They have till January to decide but they'll likely know by summer if its possible. If they stay then the Raiders are going to LA...right? Vegas is a pretty cool place to be especially if you are the only game in town. Sports bars there are always packed and it would be a cool thing to do on a trip but that might mean you have people planning trips to see their favorite teams play the raiders. I'm sure being the 2nd team in LA is still way better.
