My wife is crazy though. We've walked from Circus Circus to the Monte Carlo last trip, and maybe further. We walk a lot. Gotta negate deep fried oreos at midnight somehow.
We were discussing the idea of renting a car and doing a day or two at at the Grand Canyon or Zion. Probably lean towards the Grand Canyon.
Tripped plan for September, RT flight from Dallas for $130, hotel with resort fees was $115 (57.50 since I'm splitting) debating on renting a car, but probably wont. Secret is to go during the week for cheap everything.
are you planning to stay within the general vicinity of the strip? If so renting a car wouldn't be as ideal as Uber is now being widely used in Las Vegas. So in the end it would be cheaper over renting a car.
Hang out at Encore/Wynn in the casino any day of next week and you'll run into a ton of celebrities and also the NBA summer league starts next week as well, so you'll also run into a ton of NBA personnel also (assuming you're able to recognize face fairly easily of course). That's the hotel the majority of these guys stay at whether its summer league or USAB
Yeah if you're staying on the strip you don't really need to rent a car. But hey, you can rent a Kia Rio for cheap so whatever floats your boat.
Awesome. Was there planning on trying the Wynn buffet, as well.. Also, to whom it may concern, the San Diego- based donut shop, Donut Bar, just opened up downtown in the spot that used to be occupied by O Face donuts, which were my favorite donuts I've ever had. Donut Bar is ranked top 10 in the country by basically everyone, and is only two blocks from my hotel. I may go every dayday. Between them and Pink box, among others, Vegas is a donut town. Lol
Yeah Excalibur was $25/night through my friends game app. So it'll be on the strip. Most likely no car, but just a thought
Our trip was cheap like that. One of the things that makes Vegas so attractive. Though I'm kind of disappointed the Mermaid downtown shutdown. Eating a huge, cheap order of deep fried Oreos, at midnight, while the slots, is an awesome experience.
Vegas is great in that there are so many options. People can stay at $25 at the excalibur or circus circus. But for me a Vegas trip needs the lodging to go with the highlife. The five star's are also much cheaper during the week and I've gotten to stay at a 5 star in the middle of the strip (Vdara) for like 130-150 per night. I think that's a great deal too. I think Vegas is the only place I've stayed at a 5 star hotel in the last 10 years.
Vegas is practically like a second home for me. Been there many many times over the past 10 years. I've only rented a car when I wanted to go Snowboard. If you are there in the winter, and there for longer than 2 days, its kinda cool to get away from the strip for a few hours, and hit the slopes. Usually takes me about 45 minutes to get there. If you don't go to Vegas often than you'll be totally fine taking cabs. Vegas is a cab city. Its by far the easiest way to get around. Uber is becoming more popular of course, but its more work than just walking to the front of any casino/hotel, and having a line of cabs waiting for you, and having a bell hop guy there opening the door for you. Plus you'll end up walking way more than you plan on doing. It just happens. Have fun.
If you're just going to be hanging around the strip, no reason whatsoever to rent a car. Walking around is most of the fun. You can drink in the street and the casinos even let you leave with drink in hand. If you want to leave the strip, take a cab. Otherwise, just walk around.
I believe this is my friend's first time, it'll be an experience to say the least! That makes sense, When my finances get in more order, I plan on staying at nicer places, but for a quick strike trip last minute I'm totally fine taking the cheap route at a decent place. Good to know! I probably will be visiting more often as Dallas to Vegas can get stupid cheap (as low as $41 one way via Southwest sales) Uber has been significantly cheaper than cabs from what I remember my last two trips, so I think I'll stick with dealing with meeting on the apps and stuff to save a few $. I'll have to review where exactly on the strip I'll be staying, I know we want to see shows, check out buffets, casinos, etc. The more I'm reading, the less I think I'll need a car haha.
Make sure you check the Uber surcharges/surge on the strip. I heard people super angry about it when I was there a couple weeks ago. There might not be much of a difference if they have surcharges on the strip. But also I think the cab fair seemed more expensive than usual too. Mandalay to Downtown Freemont was like 30 bucks when usually it seems to be closer to 20 to 25. The airport to Mandalay was still only 18 bucks though which is normal so maybe just traffic. Also remember when you walk the strip cross over and walk on the MGM side. Don't walk the city center side if you dont have to. Will save you a ton of time and effort to walk between hotels. Any other questions, let me know! Have fun.
Excalibur is basically on one end of the strip. If you're in even average shape, you can can walk most places. My wife and I got a Deuce pass last time we went and will probably do the same this time. It goes from end to end on the strip and to downtown, which I think is a must. A favorite, fairly cheap, quick lunch we found is at 800 degrees in front of the Monte Carlo. Quick, good pizza. We always make a trek to In N Out, too. Lol. We're cheap people, and like to spend as little as we can, on certain things, so these are just a few things we've found.
As someone who a lazy sob and doesn't like to walk to get to places, I always enjoy walking on the strip to get to point A to B.
