Beautiful post. I agree 100%. If you're not completely satisfied with the terms of a contract, then you shouldn't put pen to paper. You can't say "oopsie" and back out of your obligations.

When you think about it there is almost no reason why the rockets wouldn't match the incentives ; unless it was to structure even more attainable ones for Dmo .

If Dmo was hitting those incentives then it's a win win becuase he is producing and the contract is still a massive bargain .

DM would not strike them out to be a cheapass or as revenge to Dmo for taking so long becuase pissing off the player isn't worth those marginal savings AND because we are still saying we want him

Starting to believe this $6 million (or really $4 million in "likely") is the hangup. I understand it from DMos perspective to some degree, but then again, he signed the contract.

Assuming Wasserman didn't screw up (and don't kid yourself...lawyers screw up all the time), they should have thoroughly explained the potential outcomes to their client. If he wasn't comfortable with losing that $4 million in likely incentives if he was matched, then he should have negotiated them in as base salary. If he wouldn't have signed the contract without those incentives, then he should have rejected the offer and continued to hold out.

Also, perhaps the Rockets wouldn't have matched if those incentives were part of base compensation.

Maybe there is a midpoint between the incentives BKN offered and nothing, but I doubt it. Every penny matters, and teams don't randomly give away precious cap space if they don't have to. For example, what if that extra million per year forced the Rockets to trade Harrell (who makes about $1 million) for nothing? You have to go through those kind of contingencies with these big deals.

It sounds like he's doing a Bill Cosby impression, the way he talks.

Hold on... the Rox didn't match the entire contract that DMo signed in NJ? How is that possible? Isn't that illegal?

No. They matched the salary. Apparently, by CBA rules, incentives are not considered part of the salary and thus do not need to be matched.

So his clients include Draymond Green?

This tips the scales on the Motiejunas case --

We can't have any rostered players that share an agent with that mule.

@heypartner Do you recall if Brooklyn required a physical?

No sure if "required" is the right word, but DMo flew there for a physical, yes.

So just to confirm he has already completed that process with them?

If this is about the incentives than I see no reason why Morey should have to give him $6 million just to be nice. If someone ****ed up or he signed a contract without understanding the terms, that's on his camp. Now Morey may want to make that move in order to retain him but if he chooses not to, I place no blame on him.

I don't know. All I know is it doesn't matter. He is now considered essentially under contract with the Rockets, per Coon's comments in the OP.

This is looking like the end of BJ Armstrong's career as an agent to me, and rightfully so.

I agree. But keep in mind only $4m is Likely Incentives and $2m is "Unlikely" incentives. The former he can probably achieve as long as he doesn't get injured and is able to push Dekker out of his backup PF spot. The later is "League Honors" per Bobby Marks, so certainly not achievable this year. Probably like All-star, 6th Man or any All-NBA Team and stuff.

I'm sure Morey would give him the $2m "Unlikely" bonuses, since they aren't cap hits until achieved.

If Morey does, I suspect this ends, ASAP.

Morey played the good guy with Parsons and got burned, though.
