McKie would be nice. I'd trade Mobley for him and the fact that LB is coming to Houston and the owner not making us buy out LB's contract and sending a pick.
True, true. Depends, though, on just who we might get for those young assets. If we get a-little-less-but-still-young-and-better assets, then say good-bye to Eddie. Besides, would Brown even come to Houston? He and Rudy are pretty good friends. Brown might not follow in Rudy's footsteps. All indications point to Van Gumby anyway. We shall see.
I think the combination of CD and Brown is tough to beat...for this team.If he takes the reigns here,he'll have guys like Yao, Steve, and perhaps Eddie to learn, grow, and lead without having to fight them. The mentality of those guys(the leaders) could really mesh well with Larry. As stated above Brown loves defense, and Eddie Griffin has some of the best instincts in the game around the hoop in that area.No way,I deal Eddie. He needs to be allowed to grow into the position...and I would hope Larry and CD agree.Griffin is,what,21?Like Yao,when they put on weight and grow into the position,Griffin should be an important piece, not dealt. On Cat,I don't see him here with Larry as coach.I've always fealt Mobes had a lot of World B Free in him.streetball, not teamball.I see Jack, as a 6th man,but not on this team.I agree we need that perimeter defense and Snow,Miller,or a good sized defensive minded player who can play the 1 or 2 would fill the bill. Another eventuality could be the offense going through Yao more than Francis, which probably would happen anyway. I digress,Brown obviously likes coaching challenges and the money that goes along with it.This mercenary might just find a home here.Les will pay and how often is it that you get the chance to mold and craft a contender(for years),in the waiting?..thats young...
He pulled the trigger on both of the starting guards when he was with the Spurs..but if he comes here he will love this team. Players like Mobley and Francis.. who love the game, are Larrys favorites..he just wont accept people who dont have an appreciation for the game. His personnel moves in San Antonio worked.............
Dang. Now I should edit my post. I was out of the loop. Didn't even know Brown would resign. Hmn. If we get Brown, he might trade Cat for Larry Hughes. Maybe. Brown always hated trading away Hughes and kept trying to reacquire him. (And the Wizards are looking to move Hughes. Hate to say it, but Hughes gets a bum rap. He isn't a PG as everyone has tried to make him.)
Don't sweat it ROXTXIA,talk about fluid situations.Things are moving at warp speed. On Hughes, has his jumper improved?
From what i've seen of Hughes this season on a lot of Wizards games, I don't see how he would be an improvement over Cuttino. He surely can't play the point, and he isn't as talented a scorer as Cuttino is, and not a better defender either. I don't see how he fits our needs. Not at the 1, and at the 3, hopefully a resigned Posey should shine in Brown's system.
I don't know squat about Larry Brown's current assistants. Anyone got a clue how much more qualified they are than Rudy's?
Randy Ayers (College - Miami (OH) '78) Dave Hanners (College - North Carolina '76) John Kuester (College - North Carolina '77) Courtney Witte (College - Indiana '86) Mike Woodson (College - Indiana '80) Bob Bender (College - Duke '80)
Hmmm............I don't know. But HEAD COACH Larry Brown (College - North Carolina '63) ASSISTANT COACHES Randy Ayers (College - Miami (OH) '78) Dave Hanners (College - North Carolina '76) John Kuester (College - North Carolina '77) Courtney Witte (College - Indiana '86) Mike Woodson (College - Indiana '80) Bob Bender (College - Duke '80) ATHLETIC TRAINER Lenny Currier (College - Arizona State '81) He's got 1 more than Rudy. And uhh........the Rockets website looks better than the 76ers one.
What if Nachbar becomes a defensive stopper and is MVP?!? I think that will happen maybe if Larry Brown becomes coach. Maybe Nachbar can surprise everyone and average 10 points per game on 50% shooting. Richard Jefferson........Peja Stojakovic.....
Also...... "In addition, to his assistant coaching duties, Hanners assists in the development of players during the regular season and in the offseason. Hanners came to the Sixers after 12 seasons on the University of North Carolina basketball staff. In his tenure at Carolina from 1989-90 to 1999-2000, the Tar Heels played in six Final Fours, won an NCAA title in 1993 and captured four Atlantic Coast Conference championships while compiling a 292-92 record (.760)." He will help while Larry Brown is coaching Olympic team. Also... "Ayers compiled a 124-108 record at Ohio State and led the Buckeyes to four postseason appearances. He was named National Coach of the Year in 1991 by both the Associated Press and the Black Coaches Association after leading OSU to a 27-4 record. Ayers guided his 1991 squad to a school-record 27 victories and its first of two consecutive Big Ten championships. He received Big Ten Coach of the Year honors in both 1991 and 1992 after leading the Buckeyes to a school-record 15 Big Ten victories in each season." Hmm...sounds better than Larry Smith and all those former video coordinators Rudy had. Also... "In his senior year, Kuester was voted the team's best defensive player for the second straight season and the Most Valuable Player of the ACC Tournament and the NCAA East Regionals." John Kuester. I don't know if he is a good coach....but he was a defender back in the day and has a lot of experience. Don't know if he won any games as coach. Also "Witte played collegiately at Indiana University under Coach Bob Knight, having the distinction of being his first junior college recruit. During his two seasons at Indiana, the Hoosiers made two tournament NCAA appearances, highlighted by a victory over the top-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels in the Final Eight." He played under Bob Knight. "Woodson helped Indiana University to the 1979 NIT championship and was voted Most Valuable Player of the tournament. He was named the 1980 Big Ten MVP in his senior season. He was also a co-captain for the gold-medal winning 1979 U.S. Pan American Games team. He graduated from IU with a degree in Physical Education." Hmm.....Woodson also played for Larry Brown in 1981-1982. "The 1996 Pac-10 Coach of the Year directed the Huskies to a 116-142 record in his tenure, including four consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament from 1996 to 1999, a feat no other Washington head coach previously accomplished, and two NIT appearances. His 116 coaching victories ranks fourth all-time among Washington coaches. Bender's 1998 Husky squad, which featured Sixer Todd MacCulloch, posted a 20-10 (.667) record that marked the school's finest winning percentage since 1985. Prior to his inaugural head coaching assignment at Illinois State, Bender was an assistant under Mike Krzyzewski at Duke from 1983 to 1989. The Blue Devils qualified for the NCAA Tournament in each of Bender's six seasons on the staff, including four trips to the Final Four." Hmm...this Bender guy...well he had a losing record. But was an assistant under MIKE KRYZYZEWSKI! They seem pretty qualified to me.
Hmm.....now Larry Smith. He has no experience at coaching. He was one of the NBA's best rebounders. Or most prolific. But that's all. Jim Boylen.... "His duties include working with the guards on shooting and positioning. In his first four seasons with the Rockets, Boylen served as the club's video coordinator. " He isn't doing a great job with Moochie's and Tito's shooting. I say keep him just to keep him. Other assistant....Mike Wells.......has no experience coaching. Was a video coordinator and scout. ACTuALLY. The Rockets only had 3 assistant coaches. Philadelphia had 6.
I don't think its a lock that Brown tries to import all his former players here and implement the exact system. After all, he has Yao. Going back to his clipper days, he ran the team so as to maximize the talent. He featured harper and manning (i think) and they scored with cuts and movement. With Yao, Brown would require his players to set screens for back cuts, use the high post to open up the lane for francis. The thing we can be certain of is defense will improve or players will be traded.
The caliber of coaches linked to Rox' opening means the new coach will have a heavy hand in personnel.
If Brown comes to the Rockets (oh please,oh please) I figure it is because he wants a change. He is not going to come here and bring his old team with him. If he comes here it is toteaqch the kids we have. Brown is a teacher. I would love to see how Francis, Mobley, and Ming all improve. I also look to see our bench players get much better, Taylor, Cato and Morris should all benefit. Look what he did with Thomas.
