    I'll repeat the negatives of a Mac.

    Price (at least a thousand more for similar equipment)
    questionable reliability
    poor keyboard
    trapped into hardware (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, at least you it works)
    Poor enterprise support

    I still get laptop envy every time I see one on an airplane. My company will give me $750 towards buying my own which means I still have to shell out over 2 grand for it. I guess I'll stick to getting the latest and greatest thinkpad every two years.

    i was thinking about getting the least expensive apple option out there. and probably upgrading the memory when i get or eventually over time.

    You can get a dell now for 399 with DVD writer.

    The plain macbook is actually a decent value as long as you can deal with the keyboard.

    Remember to upgrade the memory, you actually have to throw away the old memory since they use up both slots.
