When will Apple start offering deals to those of us who went to college before Mac laptops were around? It's just not fair.
I work for Apple, so I'm going to tell you to go with that one. Come to the Houston Galleria store tomorrow afternoon/evening, and I'll show you everything you want. Ask for the biggest sports nerd in the store. They'll know who I am.
It will come down to software. If you will need anything specific while working toward your major that is Windows-only. If you are talking about nothing more than Internet usage and email, then it's pretty wide open for whatever you decide. Other than that, it sounds like you are willing to spend the money either way. The free Touch is nice, and the software you are talking about - iPhoto, iMovie, etc. - are very nice software packages that are integrated well into the OS. New macbook hardware is also very nice. If you stay on the Windows side I would stick with Vista long enough for you to get the Windows 7 upgrade.
Getting a free music player shouldn't matter for what you are really entering a store for. A computer is much more important. Getting the right one for you etc. BTW, if anyone has a PC that is dirty or running slow....Staples has Free PC Tune ups going on right now. No gimmicks, FREE. I work for staples as the PC tech, and I normally run through all the PC's that were dropped off that day in a couple of hours. People drop it off in the morning, and pick it up that evening or sooner. They won't take longer than 48hrs. Hell, I might take my OWN pc to Staples to get cleaned since I can do it while on the clock LOL.
I made a thread on this earlier which you might find useful. I already bought my laptop but since it's 1 30 AM and I'm posting from my iPod I don't feel like telling you the exact model I chose right now. I do have a link to my thread however. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=171929&page=1&pp=20 If you are downloading songs at UT, make sure you do it legally because they are really strict on that if you are using their Internet to do it.
Yeah, I definitely dont plan on doing that. But what I am thinking about doing is have my cousin back at home download the song for me and then email it to me and then download it from my email to my hardrive. Do you think this will be a problem?
I don't know, that might work but I won't take the chance. I have a friend who has an apartment near campus so I'll probably just mooch him for internet when I'm d'loading songs. Hope I don't cause him to get caught, lol.
I see this a lot, so I'm curious: can someone please explain to me the prevalent logic behind preferring a purchase including a free item whose cost is less than (or at most equal to) the total cost of the alternative option? i could understand if someone found the macbook's quality to be so superior as to justify the initial cost difference (in effect making the touch actually free), but it seems most of these kids have no preference between the mac and pc to begin with and the free touch is the deal-breaker...
No... I don't think it's that way... I mean if you're going to base your purchase on a lousy MP3 player... that only costs about $200.. then that's just plain stupid and illogical. You buy a Mac because you like Mac OSX.. you don't buy a Mac if you like Windows.... it's like trying to buy ice-cream and there are many different flavors... you get the one you like... not the one that you don't like... except in this sense... you can't really buy a Mac just to try it out... (because of the money issue) you have to want the Mac... not to mention the fact that a Mac does cost more for crappy specs... You can buy a really good laptop with BETTER specs on a PC for less than the worst MacBook that Apple offers.
That's what I mean. It seems a lot of people base their decision solely on the free ipod. (ie: they have no preference between the two computers otherwise.) like i said, it would be one thing if you already preferred the macbook for whatever reason, because then you might feel the initial cost difference was justified. then the ipod could be a good deal breaker. but most kids seem to be saying "HAY DIS IS COOL FREE IPOD I AM GOIN WIT THE MAC!!'...
Yeah, it's kind of stupid really... because that iPod isn't going to be used after 2 months anyways... it'll be sitting around. When I bought my MacBook... I just sold it and put that money towards the MacBook to pay for it.
I'm going into my 4th year at UT as a Civil Engineering major. I bought a Toshiba Satellite 3 years ago. It has a Windows XP with 1 GB RAM and 150 GB Hard Drive. I don't remember the rest of the specs. Bottomline, I took care of my computer. I put the necessary antivirus software and spyware programs to protect it against attacks. I tried my best to take care of it and till this day it still runs like a champ. It starts up quick, I can run multiple programs, etc etc. I might buy another laptop soon since I been wanting something with a smaller screen but personally I would stick to PC since Macbooks don't do anything special that I personally need.
youre exactly correct. The way i view it the mac is a grand total and the pc is 700 total. the itouch is worth 250 total with tax, and im in the market for a new ipod. So i have 2 options: buy the apple for '750' and 'buy' the itouch at full value also or i can buy the apple for '750' buy just selling the itouch. buying an apple at 750 total to me is a better buy than the HP laptop i was looking at for 670 total, because lets face it everyone knows apples are the superior computer. And this is coming from a windows user who has never owned a mac. Just like you said, i couldnt really care less about the operating system, im a smart guy and i could adapt to either one and use whichever to its fullest capabilities, so to me its based on which is the better buy. BUT, nonetheless i bought the HP already and its in the mail . Dont really feel like getting used to the MAC OS.
