1. He brought arrogance, success, and relevance back to Tennessee -- oddly perfect for their fan base. 2. He was there for one year. 3. This entire situation is similar to Alabama and Franchione. If you're remotely familair with Tennessee football, the perception is there's nothing better or more important. Certainly there are factors that differ with Alabama (probation) but in general the disgust is completety understood. It's a slap in the face to the program at the worst time.
Any early risers want to hear Nashville sports talk radio on this matter, can tune in: http://www.1045thezone.com/Article.asp?id=579117 They'll start about 6AM Houston time and go until 9... after that it's The Dan Patrick show.
He's not leaving. If anything he'll use this as a negotiating ploy to lay out a certain time frame for when he will become the next Texas HC. Do some of you seriously believe anything ESPN reports "early" anymore?
I'm not saying he'll take the Tennessee job, but it's crazy not to think that he wouldn't very seriously consider taking it if offered.
Neither does the opportunity to be head coach of a top 5 program like Texas. If he were dumb, he would bolt for Tenn. If he were smart, hes using this as leverage.
Ya Muschamp has to consider the Tennesee job.Yes Texas is a a better job but they are both top notch jobs...
Muschamp's entire future is SET at Texas. Tenn would be good for him in the short-term, but he would be wasting an opportunity to have what some would argue to be the premier job in all of college football for the long-term. Sure, he should consider UT, but if he's smart, he'll stay at Texas.
Like the one he's got guaranteed at Texas, you mean? It's funny to watch the haters get their hopes up, only to be dashed a few hours later.
One program brings in the most revenue of any school in the country (also with the most profit), is second most in all time wins, and has been to the title game twice in 5 years. The other is about the 4th best job in the SEC. Yeah, they are about interchangeable.
It's funny that people call people "haters" when all they say is that he should consider a SEC head coaching job instead of waiting another 5 years or more for the UT job to open up Settle down, UT honks
From the Texas Rivals site... 8:50 a.m. - Just got word from someone with direct ties to the Texas football program. He all but confirmed that Muschamp is staying. Expect a formal announcement today. Also, one of a DT recruit coach's came out and said WM called to tell them that he is staying. And WM word is solid. Not like the Carroll, Kiffin and others.
I am a texas grad, but if you have a chance to take a job were you have a legit shot at the mnc they you have to do it. Who knows when mack will retire. Maybe it is five years, maybe he coaches till 80.
You and I may not know, but I would suspect Will Muschamp knows, or has a pretty good idea. They're clearly grooming him to take over the off the field aspects -- he did the final in-home with uber-prospect Jordan Hicks, not Mack.
