    If a team offers him the MLE and he accepts the offer. The Rockets can't offer him any higher but they don't have to. All they need to do is match that offer which he can't back out of.

    That's what I mean. I believed it's slightly higher than the one offered but within MLE.

    Well his agent is is trying to do now is raise the buzz for Landry which is what a good agent should do. A good agent should also get as many teams as possible interested thus raising the pot to elevate his clients value. But, can Buddy Baker use leverage to get a better deal for his client? The first go around when Landry was drafted there wasn't much leverage at all. It was take it or leave it or go play in Europe.

    His late season injury probably dropped him a few notches on other team's radars, and may have made him cheaper for us....

    The problem I see is that we can not legitimately offer anyone the full MLE until his situation is resolved.....

    I'm curious, GATER, who is a FA this summer you'd want that you think we can get, that is worth losing Landry?

    I agree the Rockets will have to wait for all the offers Landry gets before even offering him a contract, tell him we want him but we are not willing to go on a biddin war, go and find the best you can, and then tell us what we need to match.
    If i was morey i will go with the "we will match all offers" so that other teams will be reluctant to offer him something, and then go on to cçwhat cleveland did with Varejao, wait wait wait and then offer him what we think is a good contract.

    I am all for a 3 year at 7.5 millions at most until he shows he can stay healthy for a season.

    But we can not do that and add any other free agents. If I understand it correctly.....say we pay someone 3 million a year out of the 5.5 MLE.......that leaves us only able to offer Landry 2.5 million, so at that point another team can come in and offer him 3 million a year and we could not match it.

    Thus, we need his issue resolved before we do anything else.

    Don't throw out logical questions to GATER, he only wants to look smart. He's not interested in being right.

    That is not being fair, Gater has a specific type of plan he would like the Rockets to follow.

    You may not agree with it, but you should respect it.

    Gater = Greyhound theory.
