If a Landry was so easy to be found, why didn't we find one earlier on

I think Landry is untouchable. Landry's don't just grow on trees. He was an average ball player but when he added that extra 4 inches to his vertical, that changed everything.

The LLE is a fair deal. Then when he is going into his 3rd year, he can hit the jackpot. I hope he takes it.

Theres a player like Landry every year in 2nd round of the draft.
Amir Johnson 56th pick of 2005 draft
Paul Milsap 47th pick in 2006
Carl Landry 31st pick of 2007

I'm a huge Landry supporter, and I think Carl is better then both of these players. But, we can't get our team in a position where we squander away opportinuties should they present themselves to us via trades because we have to much money tied up in a 2nd year player.

Agreed, except about Corey Maggette. Maggette is even more injury prone than anyone we already have on this team, and he is more one-dimensional than Carmelo. I would rather keep Landry for below the MLE than take Maggette for anywhere near the money he's asking for.

not high on maggette either. i've also read it in the chronicle's blogs that morey and adelman don't really have high regard on him.

A lot of you guys are overevaluating Landry and the market demand, seriously. Landry has been a surprising work horse for the Rockets, great, but don't expect other teams to think as highly of him as zealous Houston fans. The fear of losing him is understandable but unnecessary.

Agreed. A player's financial worth in the NBA is largely determined by the market. This year there are very few teams that have money to throw around, so I doubt we'll see another team break the bank for Landry. Other years he could have made scary money (like Adonal Foyle), but not this year.

My question is this: Landry was obviously way better than advertised, but now that we know more about his game, what are our new expectations for him? Super sub? Decent Starter? Third scorer? Star? What do you guys think?

Landry will improve as his number is called more. He can be a third option easily. He has good handles, defense is improving by leaps and bounds, gets to the rim with ease, has a good midrange shot and if he develops a 3 pt shot watch out.

Us Rockets fans are in a bubble. Not many other teams are going to make a reach for him, and certainly not for the MLE. It's going to be similar to a situation like Amir Johnson in Detroit last year. We all thought he was a huge sleeper, and he ends up signing with Detroit for 3 years 12 million. Mind you he was a much higher profile player than Landry though.

Restricted FA's that are this new to the NBA almost never change teams. Landry will be here next year, and it won't cripple us.

One-dimensional?? Granted, I don't watch the Clips very often, but I've never thought of Maggette as Novak-like on defense. I think of him as basically a slightly lesser Artest, without the crazy attitude. His ability to penetrate and get to the line, while MAKING his free throws, would be a huge asset to this team. I'll concede the injuries point - although the last two years he's only missed an average of 10 games. Obviously there are some FA's that should be higher on our list, but I was just giving an option. I wouldn't be completely sold on losing Landry to say, Pietrus.

Looking at it objectively, Landry is a bench PF. We don't need to have 5mill tied up in a bench player - that handcuffs us being able to improve via FA, while keeping the same team out there. Names like Josh Childress, Ricky Davis, etc interest me - unless one of the "star FAs" falls and nobody has more than the MLE left. I wouldn't mind a sign-n-trade for Gordon, as some have posted on here. Chicago is going to have to pick between keeping Deng or Gordon. Atlanta between Josh Smith and Childress.

Landry is too good to lose over a few million bucks. We'll find a way to keep him as Morey has already said he'll do.

Landry is a dime a dozen. Kenny Thomas, Malik Rose, Milsap, those guys are or was good players. They're all undersized 4 with good atheletic ability. Kenny Thomas was a better, more skillful player than landry is. Philly overpaid for thomas and eventually traded him. Landry is a 2mil bench player. If he wants more, let him walk and u can go get milsap or turiaf who is just as good if not better. If he was as good as some think, why he can't overtake scola? Its not like scola is tim duncan or carlos boozer. Landry can get better and I expect him too, but he's not the end all be all. Organizations can't bid against themselves. Offer him 2 yrs at 2m per. If he takes it cool, if not let him go and sign another player. I can give u a few players the rox can replace landry with.

We need to resign him and trade him. Someone is going to overpay for him because he's young, big and his stock is at an all time high. Someone is going to offer him more than he's worth and it wont be us at least it shouldn't be us.
