I think most basketball shoes give you around of 1 1/4 inch. I think Herbert Hill may have worn some orthotics or insteps in his shoes with like 5 pairs of socks. Or some special shoe, 2 inches is alot. Hill is the exact same height as Landry, but I bet Utah will list him at 6'10. I wonder how tall Paul Milsap is without shoes.
I'm actually pretty excited about the Landry pick now. It seems like he has the physical tools, mental fortitude, and skills to be a good pf for us. Can't wait to see Brooks and landry in action.
Nice #1, qing! As an aged Boilermaker grad who spent the last 30 years or so in Houston, I haven't been able to see many of Purdue's games. I knew Landry was, as you said, "a very solid player". However Purdue's PR department had him listed as 6-7 his whole college career. So anyone asking Purdue for his height would be told 6-7. Also I have this thing about undersized PF's. They may be great for a while, but the extra effort needed to sustain greatness(Barkley was the exception) would shorten their careers-IMO. Brand is beginning to change my mind. Plus with the influx of 6-8 6-9 PF's in the league. They are more & more able to play against guys their height. Now granted against the likes of TD, KG and Dirk, they're at a distinct disadvantage. For that reason I didn't even think he would be drafted at all. Now that he predraft measured in 6-8 or 9 range, he should be able to be a solid contributor to the Rockets championship runs of the near near furture.
Beats me. Measure everyone barefoot and they're on a even level. Throw shoes into the equation and you have some people wearing two inch-adding sneakers while some wear .75" thick shoes. It skews the real measurements.
Do they wear the same pair of shoes all the time? It should be a mesurement of their body, not body and shoes.
because chances are he stays in europe for another year, making him of no use this year. even though morey said he didnt think any player we drafted would contribute this year, power forward is different since we have so few trade chips and no money to spend. we got the best PF available to step onto the floor IMO.
Milsap is 6' 6.25" without shoes. There's a Pre-Draft Measurement database on DraftExpress.com. http://www.draftexpress.com/measurements.php?year=2006&sort2=ASC&draft=0&sort=
His hight isnt really a problem. look at chuck hayes he has no problem gaurding bigger players and he is 6'6. I think landry will be alot better than we expect. I think he can contribute his rookie season. He even shut down greg oden.
He's one of the more athletic power forwards in the draft. Definitely, jump higher than Glen Davis. He'll be a great help defender and is certainly big enough to guard the other 6'9-6'10" PFs.. The thing that concerns me is that 8'6.5" standing reach and ability to rebound outside his area. He had the shortest standing reach of all drafted PFs. The next closest PF to him was Jason Smith with a standing reach of 8'10". Standing reach comes in handy in altering shots, fighting for rebounds in a crowd, shooting over taller players. Standing Reach (listed in ascending order) Carl Landry 8'6.5" Jason Smith 8'10" Josh McRoberts 8'10.5" Joakim Noah 8'10.5" Stephen Lasme 8'11" Al Horford 8'11" Herbert Hill 9'0.5" Brandan Wright 9'0.5"
More video I could find of Landry (there ain't nearly as much as there is for Brooks)... Landry needs to buy his shoes from wherever Hill does. Hill added TWO inches to his height where Landry only added ONE.
What are we talking about here? 1 inch? Not whether the kid can play or whether he has skills that can contribute to the team, we are talking about 1 inch? Hell I just enjoyed watching the video from above of the one handed put back dunk he had with 2 players basically standing right there, I enjoyed his AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH if you listen to the dunk. This kid sounds like he plays with some fire and passion. I think down the road this kid contributes, did anyone think Chuck Hayes was going to be a player BEFORE Chuck Hayes became a player? Ask yourself that and answer honestly.....
And if you wanna go oldschool, Charles Barkley was like 6'6" at PF. Size dont mean squat if you have a winning mentality and talent.
